| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Yeah, Welsh is actually mainly Celtic. Apart from words that it's stolen from English, such as "ambiwlans" for ambulance, there are practically no similarities. |

Well, the gaelic languages of both Scotland and Ireland are failing too - at least in Wales, we are holding onto our language better. Also, the future of Welsh is more secure, given that there are Welsh-speaking colonies in Argentina. |

I'd want to move to Africa, if it wasn't so politically unstable. Maybe somewhere like Morocco or South Africa. I also wouldn't mind living in Moscow. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Yes, Ireland has its own gaelic language, just like Scotland. English ~ "Hello, how are you?" Irish ~ "Dia duit, conas atá tú?" Welsh ~ "Helo, sut ydych chi?" As you can see, the gaelic language of Ireland evolved seperately from English, unlike Welsh, which took words from English as it developed. |

Stick to Commonwealth Africa and you should be fine. Unless your albino, gay, or can't fend off a few Nigerian scoundrels. Then you might need to research the country you are going to carefully. I'd like to move to Zimbabwe, if Mugabe hadn't ruined it. In a similar vein I'd like to live in Kashmir if the damned Hindus and Muslims would stop fighting over it. Kerala in India also looks rather pleasant, though I'd probably have to live in a hill station as the climate would be rather warm. Edited by lamna, May 26 2010, 04:19 PM.

Gaelic is far more like german than english. English has taken greek, latin, etc. words too. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Modern English has taken words from Latin, Greek, Roman, among others. Original English had none of those borrowed words. |

Anyone interested in seeing what English looked like in the old days, take a look at original, untranslated scripts of Beowulf. My teacher showed me a video of it once, but I'm having troubles finding it on YouTube. I'll keep trying... |
