| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Its already established that pterosaurs could theorically produce diving forms, most of the time auk/penguin like forms being suggested. However, appearently pterosaur swim trackways seem to suggest those animals actually used the feet, not unlike ducks or cormorants: http://pterosaur-net.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-giant-ape-nearly-brought-flightless.html This thus offer a higher amount of possibilities of swimming, flightless pterosaurs; there could be both a pterosaurian Hesperornis and pterosaurian penguins. I wonder if a bipedal pterosaur could evolve from a cormorant like diver, though probably it would be too specialised to return to land. |

I remember I had this crazy idea of a bipedal pterosaur, but instead it relied on its front limbs to walk on, while the rear legs reduced into clawed 'rudders' ! But nothing is impossible for them, if the niche calls for it, they'd develop it Wouldn't it be crazy to imagine bipedal pterosaurs with over-sized heads making short work of whatever they ate !

Indeed. I own a huge apology to these guys for not having imagined enough spectacular forms out of them. |
