Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Hi. This is The Future is Lethal; REVAMP Special Edition. In this special edition, I’ll be doing some major updates, adding plant and marine life sections, and after awhile, finally moving on to the next period. Yay! Also, in this REVAMP Special Edition, I need to acquire a ****ing artist. Seriously.

Neogene Period
23.03 Million Years Ago-10,000,000 Years in the Future
Notable Events
*Yellowstone Erupts
*Small Meteorite lands in Europe, destroys most of continent
*Devastating airborne, waterborne, and mosquito spread plague, dubbed Avian Eviscerator Virus(AEV), emerges from South America and changes world. Avian population reduced by 89.02%.
*Pigs and Boars evolve together, forming massive, omnivorous Warrior Boars. Sus scrofa bator, or "Wild Warrior Pig"
*Penguins go extinct. (AEV)
*Pigeons go extinct. (AEV)
*Ostriches develop immunity to AEV.
*Hummingbirds and other small birds go extinct. (AEV)
*Toucans and Macaws develop genetic immunity to AEV.
*Andean Condors, as well as all of the rest of Avian species in South America go extinct. (AEV)
*Eagles develop genetic immunity to AEV and begin evolving to take up other niches.
*AEV mutates. Now affects the Canid and Ursidae lineages.
*All canine species in the Americas, Europe, and Asia go extinct.(Mutated AEV)
*African canine species possess ancient genetic immunity to AEV.
*AEV finally goes extinct.
*Remaining Vultures evolve into Ameritavis dromius, or American Running Birds, to fill up the niche left in North American subcontinents Washington and Calitah by the now extinct wolves.
*Tigers evolve. The resulting species, Panthera azuluprimus, becomes the apex predator of Asia.
*Monitor lizards mutate into even bigger lizards. This is not a new species, but a genetic adaptation to all existing monitor lizards.
*A new alligator species from Mississipa, Alligator erectus, evolves stronger hindlimbs. Though originally an adaptation for swimming faster, alligators found that they were now capable of short, quick 'gator sprints', which are not unlike the adaptations of the first lizard capable of similar short, upright bursts.

P.S. I wish to be informed about anything that is not possible. Excluding the 'rising seas' scenario, I wish to know everything that is not plausible.

Creature Profiles

Azuls' Prime Eurasian Tiger
Panthera azuluprimus/Azuls Prime Beast Hunter
Ecosystem: Asian Rainforests
Total Species Range: 44,950,000 km.
Length: 12 ft.
Height: 4 ft.
Weight: 1100 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous

Desc.: Azuls' Prime Eurasian Tiger is an incredibly varied species of big cats. They are the apex predators of Asia, with no natural predators. The females of the species generally form a large pride with other females. The Dominant Female will be the one that undisputedly dominates all others in the pride. In the jungles of Asia, Tigers hunt by moving from branch to branch, with amazing skill and proficiency. When they spot appropriate prey, they will use the same old Lion trick. Carefully putting members ahead of their prey, the rest will attack, aiming to scare the prey into the willing jaws of those waiting ahead.

Tiger males live their lives differently. Some males will seek to join a pride. In return for the constant stream of babies, as well as the extra powerful defender (Male Tigers are bigger and faster then Females), a Dominant Female will allow the male to live in the massive, cohesive pride. Another lifestyle of males is that of the rogue. He will live alone, only seeking company in spring, where he will attempt to mate with as many females as he possibly can. He will mate with the Dominant Female first, assuming she isn't already pregnant. He will also mate with as many females as the Dominant allows. After four or five, the Dominant will instinctually kick the male out. If a male(s) is already in the pride, he may quarrel and fight with the rogue. After a certain time through the fight, the Dominant Female will decide who is winning, and will step in. She will take the side of the winner. She will not kill the loser, but the loser will be unable to object to the winner's wishes.

Warrior Boars
Sus scrofa bator
Ecosystem: Mississippan Temperate Zones
Total Species Range: 12,572,000 km.
Length: 10 ft.
Height: 3.5 ft.
Weight: 800 lbs.
Diet: Omnivorous

Desc.: Warrior Boars occupy the North American subcontinent Mississipa. They are the result of the domesticated pigs and wild, killer boars of the region evolving and breeding together. The tusk on a male is, on average, a full six inches long. Males will use this to lethal effect against the regions' black bears.

Warrior Boars breed for life. Every summer, on the Eastern banks of Mississipa, the Boars will gather and meet their partner. Warrior Boars will stick with their partner forever, defending young and performing actions as two, forming a group called a swike. They will switch the duties of hunting and protecting the young.

They have found a useful way to store food effectively. When a Warrior Boar is full, its' partner is full, AND its young, it may store this food or meal in large mud pits called Stank Pits. Stank Pits are aptly named, they have such a strong atrocious scent as to ward away just about anything. The pigs will store their food here. The mud has toxic elements which kill off all but the most resilient microorganisms, leaving food mostly untouched when the Warrior Boars come back in, say, winter. Their food will be stinky, as the Stank Pits prevail throughout all seasons. But their food will be there, and they can eat it with no side effects.

Warrior Boars are incredibly abundant on Mississpa. As such, it is often to see a dead one, with its partner (and often, young hoglets as well.) mourning its death. The partner's reaction is both amazing, and telling. It will rally many Warrior Boars to help it push their partners’ body to the nearest Stank Pit, where the body is stored for eternity. This reaction proves that the Warrior Boars have certainly become more intelligent over the years, as having funerals certainly tells us much about them.

American Running Bird
Ameritavis dromius
Ecosystem: Calitah Woodlands; Calitah Plains; Washington Hills
Total Species Range: 19,834,000 km.
Length: 6 ft.
Height: 11 ft.
Weight: 435 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Beak Length: 10 inches

Desc.: The American Running Bird is a highly intelligent, Phorusracos-esque avian pack-hunter, which has lost its ability to fly. Ameritavis dromius has regained the killing claw of its' ancient ancestors, the raptors. The devilish sickle claw is often seven inches long, but its true length varies on how much the Running Bird has eaten, as well as age and pack status. Pack leaders often have time to groom and sharpen their sickle claw with their beaks.

The wings of Vultures have devolved into small, miniature limbs facing up on the backs of Running Birds. To an observer, these are extremely colorful, small dual areas of rainbow on each side of the Birds back. These, however, are still limbs and can be fluffed and extended to intimidate rivals. A highly colorful wing indicates a healthy immune system, as well as a healthfully varied diet of deer, squirrel, moose, Eagle, and cow.

The American Running Birds pack hierarchy is unique. The leaders of the pack will always be all of the brothers from a single pack which have matured and left. There may be four or more different Alpha Birds at any given point. These males are the only ones that have the rights to breed with the females, though other males can join the pack for protection.

Mississippan Gator Sprinter
Dromaeotaurus erectus
Ecosystem: Mississipan Riverways; Mississipan Floodplains; Mississipan Outter Temperate Zones
Total Species Range: 11,320,000 km.
Length: 12 ft.
Weight: 500 lbs.

The Gator Sprinter is technically very similar to the predecessor it lives alongside, Alligator mississippiensis. It, however, has evolved stronger hind limbs, and has begun to develop several unique traits.

The Gator Sprinter is capable of running upright for several seconds. This has been dubbed "Gator Sprinting" and is the trait that Alligator erectus is named for. One day, an alligator sighted a Warrior Boar hoglet while basking. It was separated from its Swike, but was too far away to suddenly jump at. The alligator suddenly sprung, running at the hoglet at 11 mph. The hoglet ran, but its fate was sealed. The alligator collapsed on the hoglet, and ate it. This alligator was emulated by the others, those that could imitated him. Within one million years, Gator Sprinters had successfully begun hunting creatures that dared approach riversides or floodplains.

Gator Sprinters have taken the leap. They have begun pack hunting in the Outer Temperate Zones of Mississippa. They will hunt deer, occasionally moose, and sometimes, will take on Warrior Boar Swikes. This sudden change of scenery is due to a large increase in Gator metabolism. They can think and move much quicker, and can stay out of the water longer before returning.

They are also showing improvements in intelligence. They will pack hunt, plan, and when the kill is made, the biggest Gator will take his place and eat freely, without the others attempting to challenge him. Of course, if there is a quarrel, the Gators will duke it out old-fashioned style.

These sudden bursts of insight are likely due to a new hormonal gland found in several areas of the Gators. These glands emit several different neural stimulants, mental sharpeners, muscular stimulants, as well as a superior adrenaline. This hormone, which effectively allows Gator Sprinters to move and think quicker and clearer, is virtually unlimited in supply. The adrenaline like compound enters the bloodstream within moments of the Gator awaking. It has been dubbed Epinephrine-B, and should be studied in greater detail.

African Savannah Gorilla (Or the Plains Gorilla)
Homomimus africanus
Ecosystem: African Savannah Plains, Occasional forays into the Nile Floodplains
Total Species Range: 14,952,000 km.
Length: 3 ft. (Silverbacks: 5 ft.)
Height: 6 ft. (Silverbacks: 7.5 ft.)
Weight: 560 lbs. (Silverbacks: 640 lbs.)

Desc.: The African Savannah Gorilla is a new species of Gorilla which has turned omnivorous and is very focused on hunting. They prefer to eat meat, and will likely kill Zebra, Wildebeest, even Ostriches and Giraffes. Their hair coloration has changed into a light yellowish, to mix in with tall savannah grasses which now dominate Africa, and is up to 9 ft. high in some areas.

This type of Gorilla has grown a second set of canines, a thinner, long, extremely sharp canine which is set slightly behind the larger canine. This means that when Gorillas bite, the new canine will cut the flesh as the larger canine gets less resistance from the now ribboned muscles. Another predatory adaptation is a major shift in the Gorilla's locomotive muscles. They are stronger, larger, and work more efficiently; allowing Gorilla to sustain 19 mph bursts while not tiring themselves.

The final detail on the African Savannah Gorilla is that will use tools to hunt their prey. They have used rudimentary spears, sticks that they will sharpen with their teeth. They will actively aim for the legs, indicating some limited understanding of prey species anatomy. They will use reed nets to fish, by putting the net in and sweeping across the water, quickly catching fish. The most amazing tool ever used by Savannah Gorillas was a spear with a stone-tip, tied into wood via knot. This has only been observed once, used by a silverback hunting in former Ethiopia. He kept this spear, and still uses it. However, since this is an isolated event, it can be assumed that Gorillas do not have the intelligence to actively produce spears with stone tips.

American Superior Hunter Bird
Ameritavis superiothera
Ecosystem: All North American subcontinents. A constant, hovering apex danger.
Total Species Range: 30,660,000 km.
Length: 13.5-15 ft.
Weight: 220-235 lb.
Height: 7-8 ft.
Wingspan: 30-35 ft.
Wing Area: 91-100 square ft.

Desc.: The American Superior Hunter Bird is the eagle equivalent of boogeyman. It hunts and feeds early in the morning, generally on reptiles which are just beginning to bask. The bird will fly on thermal winds and soaring, occasionally using a massive wingbeat to keep itself aloft. It is a solitary creature, only seeking company when a rival is a female. The male will seek audience with the female. That is, he will attempt to enter her territory without the two attacking each other. The male will then have to 'prove' that he is successful and strong, by killing a powerful predator and bringing the corpse to her. This could be a bear, an American Running Bird, or on occasion, another Hunter Bird. When she is impregnated, the male will leave and seek his own territory. The mother will raise the birds for a period of a year, then force them out of the nest.

American Superior Hunter Birds eat... everything. They scavenge for bodies and scare off the killers with their mere presence. They kill lone ground prey by swooping down and smashing themselves into the creature, often pecking with their massive Eagle beaks right into the eye or neck. This shows that the avian hollow bones have become much, much stronger, or the Hunter Bird would break several ribs and a neck while hunting. If taking on a group, the Hunter
Bird will swoop the prey off the ground, kill it with a well placed peck to the base of the skull near the neck, and take it it to a place far away from its compatriots. The Hunter Bird has become the worst enemy of the Warrior Boar for this very reason. The fact that they never get the chance to bury their partner seems to disturb and anger them on a whole 'nother scale.

American Superior Hunter Birds have massive territories that often span 800 kilometers. They are highly territorial, and will kill any other Hunter Bird that enters its territory. They will then make a free-for-all dash to the dead enemies’ territory, to mark it in entirety and have an even more massive range.

Asiatic Gorilla
Homomimus asiaticus
Ecosystem: Asian Rainforests
Total Species Range: 45,050,000 km.
Length: 3 ft. (Silverbacks: 5 ft.)
Height: 5 ft. (Silverbacks: 6.5 ft.)
Weight: 510 lbs. (Silverbacks 610 lbs.)

Desc: The Asiatic Gorilla is an omnivorous, powerful, troop centric primate which is highly intelligent and very physically powerful. It has grown slightly smaller than its African cousins to deal with the large tree cover, and the fact that tree branches and powerful, clumping vines dominate both ground and air, forcing most species to use the trees for almost errand and task. The Asiatic Gorilla has evolved significantly, to face the constant threat of the powerful Asiatic Liger.

The Asiatic Gorillas only truly remarkable trait is that of its intelligence. It sharpens wooden spears with teeth, much like its African relatives. But it also uses grove plants to collect water, instead of foraging into swamps and river areas, where predators lurk. It is known to manipulate the growth of clump vines into makeshift overhead rain barriers, and has more recently used wood to compact a frame, essentially making a roof. It has even occasionally carved extremely strong wooden neck guards, which have saved the lives of any Gorillas who wear them. The Silverbacks of some troops are known to collect snakes in bags of woven orchid-like plant materiel, actively starve the snakes, only giving them enough to live, then release them onto invaders and predators when they transgress. On an even stranger note, some Gorilla Silverbacks allow one of the females in the troop to raise orphaned Liger cubs. Is this the first sign of domestication? Will these Gorillas be our successors? The answer is: probably.

South American "Touch of Death" Sloth
Choeloepus neofolivora toxicus
Ecosystem: South American Rainforest
Total Species Range: 16,827,000 km.
Length: 3 ft.
Height: 1.5 ft.
Weight 75-100 lbs.

The South American Sloth species have evolved into the "Touch of Death" sloths, Choloepus neofolivora toxicus. Through its years of evolution, more and more trees became toxic to prevent their fruits and leaves from being completely eaten by the more and more prevalent Sloths. Due to its slow metabolism, as well as its' incredibly long digestive process, Sloths became immune to most of these toxins. Symbiotic bacteria inside the Sloths digestive tract began absorbing the now harmless toxins. Evolution took advantage of this.

Symbiotic cyanobacteriums residing the Sloths fur began to excrete and produce these toxins. These toxins are now practically dripped from the Sloths fur, with the poison being several times over more lethal then Cyanide, it can lay a path of death wherever the Sloth goes. The toxin is hyperabosorptious, that is, it is absorbed by organic compounds, like skin and leaves, very quickly. Once inside the bloodstream, it initiates an immediate process of blood clotting. Once it reaches the brain, assuming the organism isn't already dead, it begins to mess with endocrine hormonal levels and neurological pathways. Soon afterwards, it begins to cease all neurochemical reactions, killing the organism very quickly.

Canis Lupis' Nectar Bat
Canisylupiacero androdomimusLiterally: Canis Lupis' Hummingbird Mimic Bat
Ecosystem: South American Rainforests; Central American Island Chain
Total Species Range: 18,023,000 km.
Length: 2-4 in.
Height: approx. 5 in.
Weight: .75-1.25 lbs.

Desc: Canis Lupis' Nectar Bat is a small bat species which evolved to take up the lost niche when Hummingbirds went extinct. They evolved symbiotically alongside a new flower which is specifically formed to maximize the amount of nectar the bat gets, and also maximize how much pollen the bat takes with it. They, like other bats, move in massive swarms during the night, and are nocturnal. The flower which evolved alongside them is a nightly bloomer. It blooms when in contact with moonlight, thereby only Lupis' Nectar Bats profit from its sweet, highly nutritious nectar.

Canis Lupis' Nectar Bat looks strangely similar to Golden-Crowned Flying Foxes. Most likely simply a coincidence, as they are descended from a more common type of bat.

Great Chimpanzee
Alphapan megasapiensLiterally: First Great Thinking Chimpanzee
Ecosystem: African Savannah Plains; African Floodplains
Total Species Range: 14,952,000 km.
Length: 3 ft. (Redbacks: 5 ft.)
Height: 6 ft. (Redbacks: 7 ft.)
Weight: 195 lbs. (Redbacks: 230 lbs.)

Desc.: The Great Chimpanzee is a Great Ape which actively uses tools. It has also grown in size from its ancestors, Pan trogoldytes and Pan paniscus. It has yet to be ascertained which specific line the Chimpanzees are descended from. They are very similar in behavior to the New Age Gorillas. They actively build shelters and tools, using spears and aiming for the legs. They have also begun dedicating strange articles of carved wood and hit rock to deities. They have engaged in multiple conflicts with both the Savannah Plains Gorilla and the Old Age Gorillas still living in the forests.

Great Chimpanzees are known to also socialize and trade with Savannah Gorillas. They may trade a sharpened spear or Deity Carving to them, in exchange for entering and hunting in their territory. Rarely, Savannah Gorillas and Chimpanzees have formed permanent troops together. These massive troops of over 40 intelligent and lethal Apes will scare away any competitors like Hyenafex Packs. They will hunt and eat together, socialize and play.

Leadership in these "Ape Squads" is shared between a Silverback Savannah Gorilla and a Redbacked Chimpanzee. They, together, will defend the pack, along with any other males. They will hunt and occasionally fish in the dangerous floodplains. Unlike the Silverback Gorilla, Redback Chimpanzees can be either male or female. This brings up another point: Gorillas and Chimpanzees have begun to... rarely... occasionally... mate. Fortunately for the rest of the world, this has yet to produce anything other then stillborns.

Redback Chimpanzees are the de facto leaders of Chimpanzee troops. Once in this position, hormones and special coloration genes cause the Chimpanzee to grow massive in size, and take on a hue on their backs similar to those of Orangutans. Again, they can be either male or female.

There are unconfirmed reports of Great Chimpanzees killing mother Hippos and taking the babies in as their own. This is confirmed, as Ape Squads will raise the babies near rivers, and then let them live their lives. Noticeably, rivers have become common territory lines as Hippos raised in one Squad are hostile to other Ape Squads, especially when they attempt a Territory War. These Hippos (Especially Bulls) will let the Apes that raised them pass, and will attack and discipline any Hippos or Crocodiles which attempt to deny them.

African Hyenafex
Hyaena carnifex Literally: Meat-ripping Hyena
Ecosystem: African Savannah Plains; African Floodplains
Total Species Range: 17,882,000 km.
Length: 5.5 ft.
Height: 3.7 ft.
Weight: 125 lbs. (Female: 165 lbs.)

Desc: Like its ancestor, the Spotted Hyena, the Hyenafex show rather obvious signs of convergent evolution on both Canid bodily build and structure, and primate intelligence. Their teeth are 'all-purpose' like their ancestors, but considerably sharper and larger. They have evolved considerably larger, with the largest non-obese matriarchal female Hyenafex reported at 4.8 ft. at the withers, 7 ft. long, and over 220 lbs.

African Hyenafex have apparently taken up the niche of the extinct African Savannah Lion. They have retained their female-based dominance hierarchy. These Hyenas are universally known as 'matriarchs'. Hyenafex generally hunt large grazers, such as wildebeest, zebra, Giant Eland, African Buffalo, warthog, and Giraffe calves. African Hyenafex are the only known species that actively kills and eats Hippos which attempt to blockade their passage through a river. Their hunting strategy with other creatures resembles that of the African Wild Dog. One Hyenafex will bite the creatures’ tail, while another zooms up and bites the upper lip or eye. Another will jump onto the creatures back and attempt to maintain balance long enough to bite the beasts spine. Since their jaws have been bone-crushers for millions of years, the design has obviously been improved upon and enlarged. If this does not instantly kill the beast, it will disable at least one leg, ending the hunt immediately. Hyenafex will then disembowel the prey, often while it is still alive. The Liver is the most prized piece of meat, generally being shared between the senior females and the Matriarch of the group.

There are rare reports of cubs being taken in and raised by Great Chimpanzees and Savannah Gorilla "Ape Squads." This obviously has serious implications. The thought of domesticated Hyenafex being used as Beasts of War to assist in hunting may seriously influence Ape psyche, assuming aforementioned reports are indeed correct.

Rahmlee's Mandrill (I am arrogant and self-centered. )
Mandrillus rahmleosi
Ecosystem: African Rainforests; Occasional forays into Savannah
Total Species Range: 13,451,000 km.
Length: 5.5 ft.
Height: 4 ft.
Weight: 95 lbs. (Males: 115 lbs.)

Desc: Rahmlee's Mandrill is the world’s largest monkey. Though not particularly strong, Rahmlee's Mandrill has been seen to congregate in group by the hundreds, leading to a high survivability rate as Mandrills will attack and often kill anything which attempts to kill a member. They have also spent more time fishing, occasionally using a reed net to trap small fish. They have grown, evolving a more muscular build and stronger jaws for killing small prey. Their primary prey is still Thompson's Gazelle, and other similarly sized herbivores. They are known to occasionally get into territorial conflicts with Great Chimpanzees and Savannah Gorillas. Due to their numbers, they generally win.

False Aquatic Toucans
Andigena pseudaquaticus
Ecosystem: Amazonian Floodplains
Total Species Range: 9,273,118 km.
Length: 3 ft.
Height: 1.5 ft.
Weight: 4.7 oz. (Does anyone have a metric/Imperial translator?)

Desc: The False Aquatic Toucan is a descendant of the Green Aracari toucan. It, like its ancestors, is a fruit-eater and its diet consists mostly of such. Evolving in the floodplains, where trees are rare, they have evolved into more efficient land walkers and swimmers. They may eat Ants which often populate the small pockets of land which dot the Amazon. They swim generally to reach the most nutritious types of fruit, the Amada fruit and Hydroberries. When they reach land, the Amada fruit can be seen as a parasitic plant which will profit off of the few remaining trees. Strangely, they produce highly nutritious fruits. Once the available Amada fruits are eaten, and if it is somehow STILL hungry, the Toucan will look around the branches of any existing trees. Here can be found a thick vine organism which contains highly nutritious seeds inside nearly all parts of its body. Water actively and constantly pumps water and nutrients throughout the vine, thus the name Hydroberries.

Nests of False Aquatic Toucans are often in carved inside the husks of trees. Infanticide is rare, as Toucans in fact usually share nests, with up to 12 eggs per mother.

Washington Giant Flying-Squirrel
Glaucomys giganotis
Ecosysytem: Washington Seqouia Superforest
Total Species Range: 650,297
Length: 5 ft.
Height: 2 ft.
Weight: 29 lbs.

The Washington Giant Flying Squirrel is a descendant of the Northern Flying Squirrel Glaucomys sabrinus. When the Sequoia forest began to grow, so too did the Flying Squirrels with it. As the forest slowly began to reach heights in the hundreds of feet, the Squirrels would adapt.

They have large dark eyes and a flattened tail. They have a furry membrane called a patagium which extends between the front and rear legs, used to glide through the air. They can use their tail is an axel for the "brake" required before landing on trees.

The Giant Flying Squirrels nests in holes in Sequoias, or more often, holes in the tree that grow on the Sequoias, preferring large-diameter trunks and dead trees, and will also build outside leaf nests called dreys. Except when rearing young, the squirrels shift from nest to nest frequently. They often share nests. In one nest, up to 50 individuals can be found co-habitating, although usually nests contain 2-5 individuals. The sharing of nests by flying squirrels is important in maintaining body temperature in the winter, as flying squirrels do not hibernate.

In the winter, Giant Flying Squirrels tend to live in conifer areas of the Sequoia Superforest, while in summer they are found in conifers and deciduous areas. This behavior is associated with the belief that the canopy cover is important in protecting the squirrels from predation and colder temperatures. In all but the most severe weather conditions, the squirrels are active year-round.

Hades Caiman
Caiman hadaeus
Ecosystem: Amazonian Floodplains
Total Species Range: 9,351,282 km.
Length: 8 ft.
Height: (While Running) 2-3 ft.(Varies)
Weight: 92 lbs.

Desc: Hades Caiman is a large, predatory Caiman which evolved from the Spectacled Caiman, Caiman crocodillus. It is named so because of its further developed bone struts and pseudocrests, which give it an evil, devilish appearance. These bones are noticeably thick and strong, likely to resist blows from its main prey, the False Aquatic Toucan, and is reminiscent of the extinct theropod dinosaur, Allosaurus.

Hades Caiman are shown to be capable of quick, "Gator Sprints," a burst of speed on two legs which evolved in part due to the shrinking of tails and strengthening of all limbs to swim better. When expanding flood waters encountered the South American Lowlands, the Caiman habitat, land was much more easily accessed, as most trees died off. This allowed the strengthening of limbs to serve an obvious purpose, as hunting land organisms would be critical. Its occasional bipedalism is an obvious act of convergent evolution, an earlier and less efficient design was pioneered by the larger "Gator Sprinters" of Mississipa, though the subspecies Dromaeotaurus erectus mexicanus is capable of longer, quicker sprints and more efficient swimming than either.

The tail in Hades Caiman is significantly shorter, but limbs are much stronger. Caiman may occasionally hunt land animals using an attack colloquially referred to as the "Caiman Tackle" They will sprint forward, and then smash down with their equally powerful yet lighter forelimbs, often completely breaking the spine of False Aquatic Toucans, and preventing unnecessary torsion on the jaw of Hades Caiman. They have no known predators, but an invasive subspecies of Ameritavis superiothera, Ameritavis superiothera amazonius, is known to occasionally kill Hades Caiman to impress mates.

Smoky Bears (More often referred to as Transgressor Bears)
Ursus transgressus
Length: 15 ft.
Height @ Shoulder: 7 ft.
Height Upright: 16.7 ft.
Weight: 2700 lbs.

Desc.: The Smoky Bears are derived from the devastated populations of brown and black bears which migrated north in an attempt to escape the Mutagenic AEV Strain which mutated to effect creatures similar genetically to Canidae. This affected the Ursids, and they narrowly escaped extinction due to low populations in Northern North America. But this population was not enough to sustain the family. A halved population of Polar Bears migrated south to escape devastating floodwaters, which were encroaching upon its icy habitat. These genuses would interbreed and eventually result in a single, unified genus, which would survive long enough to be isolated again when Calitah and Washington split in their northernmost parts. Little change has affected either population, though some groups are moving south.

Smoky Bears are the largest extant terrestrial mammalian omnivores. They prey mostly on migratory fish, large fruits, Moose, deer, a group which is mating may take on a Running Bird pack. They are active for around 10 hours per day. They will hunt and eat much, generally to compensate for the massive amount of energy it takes to power their massive bodies. When pairs are mating, they will act cohesively and work together. This may form limited bonds between the two, as pairs that have previously mated are commonly seen to mate repeatedly throughout their lifetimes.

They adapted a noticeably shorter jaw, similar in structure and strength to the Short-Faced Bear Arctodus jaw. In fact, it seems to have developed more along the lines of bone crushing. Contrary to this, 65% of Smoky Bear energy is derived from fruits and leaves.

New Age Vulture
Haliaeetus vulturaptor
Length: 4 ft.
Height: 2.5 ft.
Weight: 40 lbs.
Wingspan: 12 ft.
Wing Area: 37 ft.
Ecosystem: All of Calitah
Species Range: 14,853,000 km.

New Age Vultures evolved from Eagles, which sprang into the niche left by the Old Age Vultures. The remaining Old Age Vultures eventually evolved into the American Running Bird. New Age Vultures are small, but congregate in massive numbers over the dead. They are like airborne Hyenas. Relentless and undaunted by even the most terrifying of challengers (American Running Bird packs, American Superior Hunter Birds).

Once every two years, a massive horde of thousands of New Age Vultures will congregate near the western most point of Calitah, and will begin a massive flight into Mississippa. The flight can take days, and many may die. But when they reach Mississippa, they are starving and destitue. And they kill everything. The sight of a huge pulsing cloud of ravenous Vulture analogues on the horizon often unites the entire ecosystem against them. Warrior Boars, Superior Hunter Birds, American Running Birds, everyone kills every New Age Vulture that they see. Because if they don't, the Vultures will kill everything. After about three months, the Vultures depart, their bellies undeniably full.

Subspecies

Azuls' Prime Eurasian Tiger

Prime Siberian Tiger/ Panthera primus siberius: A white coated, larger Eurasian Tiger. Actively steals kills from native Ursid population. Is, however, relatively smaller then total Ursid population, numbering at around 215,000

American Running Bird

Sequoia Superforest Running Bird/ Ameritavis dromius folihabitius: A smaller, sleaker Running Bird which leads a mostly solitary lifestyle in the Sequoia Superforest. It is less brightly colored, more camoed. Its' legs have developed more, allowing it to jump much farther, occasionally actually jumping clear from one Sequoia to the next in repeated succession in search of Giant Flying Squirrels. Population 179,000.

Mississpan Gator Sprinter

Mexican Archipelago Gator Sprinter/ Dromaeotaurus erectus mexicanus: A smaller, sleeker Gator Sprinter. It hunts massive fish and Mexican Macaws. It has developed a quicker sprint system and a shorter, much more powerful snub-jaw. It is also more hydrodynamic, and is the quickest swimming of all known crocodilians. Occasionally preys on migratory Population 152,000
American Superior Hunter Bird
South American Floodplain Superior Hunter Bird/Ameritavis superiothera amazonius: A breed of American Superior Hunter Bird which has adapted to the floodplains. It evolved water soluble feathers and feet to deal with all the water. In this environment, territories tend to be several orders of magnitude smaller, as the hormones and ‘markers’ that Superior Hunter Birds do not react well to humidity above 85%. Population 119,000

Plant Profiles

Hydroberries: a thick vine organism which contains highly nutritious seeds inside nearly all parts of its body. Water actively and constantly pumps water and nutrients throughout the vine, thus the name Hydroberries. It appears to draw a great deal, if not a majority, or its sustenance from nutrients in the floodwaters. The vine is known to grow on rotting carcasses, but its usual spot is on the branches of trees, sometimes extending from one tree all the way to another tree on another little ‘island’. These massive ‘Vine Bridges’ are both terrifying and mystifying. The bridges seem to be alive, pumping gallons of materiel from one point to another. On the other hand, they are a stunning method for False Aquatic Toucans to not get eaten.

Amada Fruit: as a parasitic plant which will profit off of the few remaining trees. Strangely, they produce highly nutritious fruits. The Amada plant itself seems to mimic lichen, growing in tiny little clumps on vulnerable points in trees. Eventually, Amada will penetrate the tree, and begin growing inside it. Death of the tree usually follows. Amada fruits appear to be grown from unique colonies of Amada on trees. They always take the distinct form and shape of a small tree branch, yet are made from Amada. From this, a fruit, filled Amada in its earliest “Progenitor” stage, will generally be eaten by False Aquatic Toucans, which will then be excreted by the Toucan. Eventually, the Amada will wash up on land, or find a tree root underwater. It will then begin its murderous parasitic… stuff.

Washington Superforest Sequoia: Sequoiahedron Neowashingtonspread all over America in what would've been our time. When the flooding occurred, Washington was the only suitable habitat in which Sequoias did not go extinct. These Sequoias are vastly more massive then the one seen in the picture above, so large that other trees must grow on their branches to receive any sunlight. The Sequoia Superforest spans an area of around 159,000 miles, and consists of around 600,000 Sequoias, and millions of other trees which have taken root in them. These things are huge. Huge. Like… Avatar ‘Hometree’ huge.

Cool ideas. Specially the warrior pigs.
Though, i don't think that tigers or gorillas end up surviving into the near future.
I can be your artist. Check my DeviantArt gallery (link in my sig) and see if you like my art.

Tigers are extremely adept at flooded, watery environments. Which is essentially what the entire world has become. I think I may not've included that tidbit with the Special Edition. Oh yeah, and Humanity is "Kapoof". Gone. Forever. We never happened. So neither Gorillas nor Tigers end up being Endangered.

I'll take a look at it. ::)

Do you mean we never evolved? If so, why are there canines in Australia?

That's..............

A good question.

Well...

Oh boy...

We never existed. BUT... some..., er...

Dammit. You got me. I haven't done much on Australia, though, so it's not that bad. I'll just remove that from the first post. Any other comments/compliments/baffling questions?

Can you say the dates for the events? And climate stats for each area?
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Sure I'll add dates to that part. I'll also add a Habitat or Biome section.
