Timeline 2013- Russia is devastated by widespread nuclear terrorism. Eventualy, surviving residents flee to underground bunkers and subway systems. 2021- NASA opens a permanent outpost on the Moon, called Armstrong. 2022- Three hacked Russian MIRVs are detonated across the Middle East. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, and Iraq are virtually obliterated. The United Arab Emirates is the only remaining country in the Middle East. 2023- Reports of mutant horrors across the former Motherland are reported as fallacies. 2027- The Alaskan Pipeline becomes a major source of oil as eco-friendly expansions are created and expanded upon. It is expected to last at least another 40-50 years, given population expansion and inclusion of technological updates and ecological advances. 2028- An international team of engineers creates the worlds' most powerful nuclear reactor, dubbed the Spark. 2029- A new NASA, emboldened and energized by the increasingly successful United States economy, lands the first manned team on Mars. 2030- Having over 2,300 researchers and room for many, many more, the Armstrong Outpost becomes Armstrong City, a self-sustained, perfectly functional city. 2032- NASA begins the process of terraforming Mars. 2033 (June 7th)- The US walks out of oil talks with all other countries. However, it does vow that it will help all other countries in developing alternative methods for all other countries. True to its word, it developes an extremely efficient (53%) solar panel, and begins trading it to the U.K, Australia, and several other nations. The leaders of South America show extreme disdain at this. 2033 (August 13th)- A coalition of South American nations, brought together by the dying reserves of oil on their continent, attack the United States. They are crushed. Cuba was the first to fall, then Columbia, then Venezuela. Brazil and Argentina formerly surrender. The rest of the coalition quickly disbands. 2034- The US reserves the oil coming out of South America for its' own reserves. Reports of atrocities in Venezuela and Brazil are put down quickly and quietly. 2035- A devastating pandemic in Africa kills 563 million people. 2037- Given its increasingly worsening situation, Spark is transferred by the U.N. to Southeast Asia, providing virtually infinite power to China, India, and surrounding areas. 2038- The final, automated pipelines in the ravaged Middle East, shipping thousands upon thousands of gallons of oil to Europe, cease to function. 2038- A team from the U.K. confirms that the oil has dried up. 2039- Four months after the pipelines dry up, Europe is thrown into disarray. It is unknown who fired the first shot, but the devastation that followed is clear. Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Italy, and many other countries conduct strikes into surrounding countries for their remaining oil reserves. 2040- Nobody wins the aforementioned war. Once again, a continent is emblazoned in nuclear fire. The only remaining humans in proximity to Europe are those living in the U.K. and Ireland. 2041- It is confirmed that radiation in Russia has caused the creation of several new species. 60% of research team personnel are never heard from again. 2047- An unknown error causes Spark to implode. Thankfully, Mini-Spark is located in the middle of the Gobi Desert. The surrounding area, out to a radius of 600 miles, is glassed. The shockwave continues on into slightly populated areas before dispersing. No survivors are reported in these areas. The tectonic stress created by the explosion creates a new fault line. An extremely unstable one. Magnitude 7-8.3 earthquakes happen almost daily in the area. 2048- The Failsafe System, proposed by the remnants of the U.N. to China and India, is approved. Mini-Star is now contained in a vehicle which, if necessary, can eject into space. 2050- Given that almost half of Earth is extremely dangerous to be treaded upon because of nuclear missiles, the U.S. proposes the development of a Nuclear Deflection System (N.D.S.) to the UN, a powerful net of electronic and DEW countermeasures designed to destroy or render useless incoming nuclear missiles. The plan is approved. The system goes into action a month later, covering the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Japan, North and South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada, and Mexico, with India's system suffering major setbacks due to a solar flare. 2051- China and India go to war over a large oil reserve discovered in Mongolia. The world watches in horror as China redacts its membership of the U.N. and fires a full payload of fifty nuclear missiles into India. India fires back with around twelve. China is protected by its NDS, and watches as four nukes are electronically disarmed and the other eight are destroyed by lasers. India's NDS, however, is only partially functional. Only New Delhi is protected. The rest of India is gone. The resulting radiation and radioactive rain kills everyone in New Delhi in two months. 2053- By this point, Armstrong City is joined by New London, the U.K.'s own lunar city. Armstrong City is one of the most heavily populated (Remaining) cities known to exist, with over 1.3 million residents. New London expands quickly, and many U.K. residents move there. Its population expands quickly to around 30,000. 2054- The U.S. military, worried that other countries (Especially China) may attempt an attack at the Alaskan Pipeline, begins developemt of biological weapons. The basis for the project, a powerful, mutagenic virus called F.E.V. (Forced Evolutionary Virus) is extremely successful. 2077 (February 6th)- The Alaskan Pipeline fails. There is nothing left. The U.S. has enough oil in its reserves to function without stop for approximately one year. The announcement is never made that Alaska's oil reserves are gone. However, the U.S. secretly presses into developent a new, 68% efficient solar panel. All over the country, rumours spread that the new solar farms (Each acres to even miles in area) are being created because the Alaskan Pipeline is about to (Or maybe, already has) dried up. 2077 (February 25th)- The Chinese government decides that the United States cannot be allowed to have power while the rest of the world dies. They plot with the few countries left to attack and take over the US, and split the power. Australia, Canada, and Mexico agree. Only the U.K. does not. 2077 (October 3rd)- The U.S. announces that the Alaskan Pipeline has indeed failed. They also announce that the U.S. will be able to sustain itself with almost no setbacks due to the solar farms they have put in place. 2077 (October 29th)- The alliance against the U.S. makes its' move. Forces arrive on the West coast in minutes. The U.S. uses its' position in the U.N. to temprarily disable N.D.S. over all the attacking countries. And annihilates them. China and Australia counterattack. As a measure of last resort, the U.S. enacts Dream Angel, a mission which kills everyone the face of the planet(Excluding the U.S.) with Nuclear fire in the case that the United States' defeat was imminent. Immediately, and only minutes before N.D.S. is reactivated, the U.S and U.K., as well the occupied South American countries, are obliterated. 2077 (November 13th)- The creatures created by F.E.V. escape their prisons. 2159- It is unknown how or why, but the imposed nuclear winter ends. 2277- Devastation begins. Hi. This a project about what effect ungodly amounts of radiation would have on existing creatures. It lives by the 'Fallout' methodology that radiation makes mutants, not... you know... death. It also follows F.E.V. as part of the explanation of why things are the way they are. The first (and easiest) thing I'll be doing is cataloging all the species depicted in the Fallout series, as well as those in Metro 2033. Help is always appreciated, as are suggestions. However, the radiation and F.E.V. make just about anything possible. Keep this in mind when commenting or suggesting something new. I'd prefer this to be collaborative, since I am not a person with an infinite amount of ideas. Creatures Common Nosalis Nosalis vernaculus "Common Nosalis" Length (When quadrupedal): 5 ft. Height (When standing): 4 ft. Niche: Predatory Mammal Intelligence: Negligible Habitat: Russian Metro System Estimated Population: 3 million Common Nosalis appear to have evolved from voles. They have brown, furry bodies and are the most prevalent type of Nosalis. Its jaws are wide set on a narrow snout, which comes to a blunt tip. They are fast and extremely agile, and like all Nosalises, appear to virtually ignore gravity as they jump around and on walls effortlessly. They attack in massive packs, often overwhelming strongpoints in the Metro with sheer numbers. In Nosalis broods, they are born the most. A Common Nosalis mother will give birth to eight pups every 7 weeks (They are voracious breeders). Out of those eight, at least 5 per brood are of the Common variety. They have adapted well to the Metro, displaying extreme skills at digging and sneaking through vents. Dark Nosalis Nosalis vesper "Evening Nosalis" Length: 5.5 ft. Height: 5 ft. Niche: Predatory Mammal Leader Intelligence: Good Habitat: Russian Metro System Estimated Population: 730,000 Easily identified by its extremely toothy maw, Dark Nosalis are stronger, faster, and smarter than their Common brethren. They appear to have evolved from shrews. They can most often be found leading packs of Common Nosalis. In broods, they are born with a 1/8 or 1/4 ratio. These Nosalis seem to comprehend what Human firearms do... they simply don't care. They send their packmates into heavily defended areas with no regard for them. Dark Nosalis mothers are more likely to give birth to higher tier Nosalis than Common Nosalis mothers. In their broods, at least three pups will always be of the Common species. Generally, the rest are of the Dark species, but occasionally, with 1/128 ratio, they give birth to a devastating Plated Nosalis. Great Plated Nosalis Nosalis ankylon magnificens "Great Plated Nosalis" Length (When quadrupedal): 10 ft. Height (When Standing): 7.8 ft. Intelligence: Slightly Smarter than a Chimpanzee Estimated Population: 18,000 Named so because of the chitinous armor on their necks and backs, Great Plated Nosalis are the females of Plated species, alongside the males, the Plated Transgressing Nosalis. They are large and extremely resilient, though they appear to have a narrower profile than other Nosalis. Their eyes are completely adapted to the dark, as if they were wearing Color Night Vision goggles. Great Plated Nosalis lead entire armies of Nosalis, but only do so around once a year when they lead thousands up to the surface to attack the Howlers. Great Plated Nosalis mothers broods, unlike all others, actually depend on the mate. Common Nosalis mates will generate a larger than normal brood, mostly of Common Nosalis. A Dark Nosalis mate will cause a brood of around 5-6, mostly Dark Nosalis with an occasional Plated. Mating with an extremely rare fellow Plated Nosalis (Transgressing males) will produce a brood of 2-4, most being Plated Nosalis. Transgressing Plated Nosalis Nosalis ankylon trangressus Length: 8.5 ft. Height: 7.8 ft. Intelligence: Tool-using... near-human Estimated Population: 16,000 Transgressing Plated Nosalis are extremely powerful. They are similar to their female sisters, yet smaller and more streamlined. Their amor plates, however, are very thick yet light. Trangressing Plated Nosalis have been seen using tools. Generally, these are just sticks or knives looted off of humans. None the less, the very thought of an organism which takes an RPG to kill wielding a knife is terrifying. Howler Canis mutanis "Mutant Canine" Length: 5 ft. Height: 2 ft. at the withers Intelligence: Wolf-like Estimated Population: 2.55 million Habitat: Russian Surface; Russian Metro System Howlers, the adult Lurker, is a powerful foe descended from dogs or wolves, and possibly some rats as well. Howlers (duh) howl when they spot decent prey, and immediately take off to kill it. Howler can congregate in the thousands at breeding grounds. Howlers are fed upon by Demons. Howlers are reasonably intelligent, for example, pretending to be dead and ambushing a Ranger from the Metro when they venture to the surface.' Demons Destrus lacra "Life Destroyer" Length: 8 ft. Height: 7 ft. Wingspan: 11 ft. Wing Area: 38 ft. Intelligence: Good Estimated Population: 1.12 million Habitat: Russian Surface Demons are the most terrifying creatures born of the atomic fire. They are constantly hovering over the dead cities, searching for prey, both beasts... and humans. Their jaws are strange but deadly, full of bone-crushing teeth with a secondary lining of incredibly sharp serrated teeth. These beasts are virtually unstoppable. Librarians Homo judaeus "Betrayer of Man" Height: 6 ft. Length: 4 ft. Intelligence: Great Estimated Population: 5,000 Habitat: Intact, Dead City buildings. Usually libraries. Librarians are powerful, ape-like mutants who prey on anything that doesn't stare them in the eye long enough. They are known to have been Humans at some point, though now Humans have become their primary food source. They are extremely fast and powerful, moving on their knuckles like Gorillas. They seem to have a rivalry with Demons for the spot of "Most Dangerous Mutant of the Motherland." The fact that they are so rare may indicate that they lose. I'm confused. Is this a collaboritive project or is this a depiction of the creatures from Fallout and Metro 2033? Also F.E.V sounds highly interesting. How does it's biology work and how does it force evolution ( and in what direction is the evolution forced) This looks highly promising. |

Both. The first thing I'm doing is scientfiically breaking down teh creatures in Fallout and Metro 2033. Then... I'll start making up stuff. And hopefully, have other people start making up stuff. F.E.V. converts the normal, duo-helical structure of our DNA into quadruple helical DNA. THere are many abnormal side effects of this, like increased muscle mass and brain activity. It was used experimentally by the U.S. to create radical "biological weapons." These "weapons" are living creatures mutated by the virus. Many subjects of F.E.V. become biologically immortal, regenerating their cell structures at measurable rate every day. Sure, they can be shot and die like anything else, but they'll never die of old age. Or disease, for that matter. |

Woah woah woah. Fusion power has reached 16 MW in the UK, it'll be available in a few years- but in the next few hundred, we won't have naywheree near the power to make this mini-star. And if we did, the plasma wouldn't destroy the containment but rather cool on the edges due to its super-low density. Mutant monsters due to radiation? ![]() Why didn't the USA, China, The Great Island Realm, and France retaliate to said nuclear terrorism? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

This is not reality. So yes. Mutant monsters due to radiation. With radiation and F.E.V. and other sorts of things, I have plenty of excuses to make whacky-ass things. For today, however, I'm going to work on revamping The Future Is Lethal. |

... Dammit. I see your point. I'll change up a few dates and make Mini-Star the cutting edge of Fusion technology. But not a star. |

Alrighty. #Fusion power- this is a low-density plasma that can reach millions and millions of degrees atb the core, yuhuh? So now to work out the amount of power it must be generating in order to a. be able to breach containment without cooling and b. to create a massive hyperthermal shockwave... About 500 megatons. That's as powerful as 120 of today's best tri-stage optimised cased thermonuclear fission-trigger H-bombs. The best fusion out put so far achieved was 16MW, for one second. This is 500mT in about 0.1 seconds, yuh? So you need a MASSIVE reactor. Kilometres across. And directing the shockwave... dunno how that can be achieved. |
