Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Are/would they of been possible?

I'm asking this question because of this awesome feathered quadrupedal theropod I drew a few years ago when I just started getting interested in Spec Evo. Too bad it's gone now, I really wish that I hadn't lost it

Would the non-therizinosaur dromaeosaurs or troodontids be possible for quadrupedalism?

And welcome back JohnFaa!

Thank you.

I really doubt advanced maniraptors could produce quadrupedalism at all; it is even quite a stretch for basal ones like therizinosaurs

I find it easier to start before the Dinosaurs and change the hip structure so that bipedalism wouldn't be easy to evolve.
I am dyslexic, please ignore the typo's!

When did the ornithischians evolve? Because that could be around the time theropods become quadrupedal.

They exist - sauropods.
It would be very hard for any later group to evolve a seriously quad. theropod. If it did, it would have to be in a very isolated environment with no competition, like an island. Such an animal would have very strange forelimbs and a very awkward gait.

I don't think evolving into a quadruped would be worth the effort, their fine with being bipedal.

Maybe an arboreal theropod evolving to climb with all four limbs, and then coming back to the ground? The paravians seem to have started off arboreal/gliding...
My speculative dinosaur project. With lots of fluff, parental care and mammalian-level intelligence, and the odd sophont.

What about quadrupedal birds? What chances do they/did they have to become quadrupedal?

I don't think they really have they build for it, I am very doubtful that they will produce quadrupedal forms.
