Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

The water would just sink in, then go through the soil and eventually drain into the ocean. For the last time, a tsunami cannot do that.

Anyone consider the possibility of pelagic sea-cucumbers being the new tetrapod?

First though tetrapods will have to go extinct (near impossible, needs a 95% extinction or more), and then sea cucumbers will need to evolve someway to bypass the hydraulic vascular system, if they even survived. Gastropods would go to land before sea cucumbers, and there are a whole lot of other potential animals.

Perhaps the world suddenly becomes drastically colder, killing off all non-adapted exotherms and even the hardiest of most endotherms?

I dunno. How could one wipe out all Terran-looking animals from the Earth?

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

No way, unless you reset it to pond scum level.

And Pando is right. No WAY any of this stuff would happen. If you started at the begining of Earth, this stuff is okay. Still not plausible, but okay. However, in a post K-T world, this is beyond implausible. As Pando said, IMPOSSIBLE!

Not trying to be mean, but impossible is what it is.

A lot of species wouldn't die due to there being immune individuals.

Though this extinction is impossible, and I have no idea why stafish would all of the sudden come on land and Ichthyornis would become tripeds. THough legless mammals might be possible, for example: proterix. But most of your concepts make no sense at all.

That legless hedgehog never deserved to become extinct. The world needs more awesome like that.

Back on topic, that's probably true. Were starfish ever to come onto land, they'd probably have to stay small, and maybe stay amphibious.
And Icthiornis...you mean the bird, or something else? Because birds can't really become tripeds.

Proteryx wasn't legless though. If you were legless you would need side-side action like snakes, which mammals are impossible to do. Proteryx still had front limbs to push itself.

P.S. I was preparing this argument waiting for it to be brought up.

Also if we're talking about Ichthyornis, I thought it was a flyer? This link said it had highly developed wings? Why couldn't it then just take back flying niches. If we're talking about herspornis it's different but sorry no chance for tripeds. :slant:
USed my first emoticon!

Where did you find that proterix had front limbs to propel itself? Everywhere I looked said it lacked any sign of hips or leg bones.

Well, I was wrong. But limbless mammals won't last, especially if 1 squamate survives.
