Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

If any primate were to out last mankind, I would tend to think it would be one of the baboon species. How would you see them evolving in the future if other primates were extinct and most of their main predators were as well?

Do you think they would evolve to the point where their front limbs were vestigial (as predicted by Dougal Dixon in After man) or is that pretty unlikely?

I think it's kind of unlikely. I mean, even if they became predators fitted for high-speed chases, why would they end up getting T-Rex mini arms?
But again, is the same dude who gave us Strigers and Night stalkers....as well as the *shudders* Gourmand from The New Dinosaurs.

Go in there for some odd stuff that could make you puke, and ask for some free sketches. :)

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

Unlikely. The baboon in "After Man" was theropodal, which is why its limbs were reduced. I don't see baboons as becoming theropodal. Only pangolins like I pointed out to Pando.

Black_Panther: The chimp-like intelligence seems pretty plausible. Even relatively unintelligent creatures use tools in a sophisticated way. Look at hermit crabs.

Thanks for the info.
I was thinking, how plausible would be for baboons to become entirely bipedal?
Mostly because i plan on doing baboon-based creatures for a project, that are pretty much around the lines of Australopithecus.
Goblins, i shall call them.
