Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Maybe you should do the pterosaur-beasties from the Mist.
And I'd like to see how you explain those 'living tentacles' from the Mist
Don't forget the garganutuan thing from the Mist....

I'll be doing the "scorpion-bug" first.

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

THE ARROWHEAD FILES
Creature Name: Deinoscorpio robustus
Description: This formidable-looking creature was one of the first creatures recorded to have come out of "the Mist." It is a predator, although like most of the creatures from the world it comes from it does not find the flesh of Earth animals palatable. This was demonstrated in tests when a captive individual at our base refused to eat the chicken which our specialists had provided and starved to death. They are nevertheless extremely aggressive and will attack anyone who approaches them at the slightest provocation. No fatalities have been reported as yet, but this could change if the Mist spreads.
POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE

I love the mist creatures, though I've often wondered what kind of world they came from, with that mist everywhere I would say a very humid one......though the three I most wodnered abotu was that mantis looking thing, the tentaacles fro mthe beginning and that ginormous creature at the end.
don't Blink. Blink and you're Dead. Don't turn your Back. don't Look Away, and Don't blink. Good luck
He never raised his voice. That was the worst thing - the fury of a Time Lord - and then we discovered why. Why this Doctor, who had fought with Gods and Demons, why he had run away from us and hidden. He was being kind.

It's been a LONG time, but I promised another entry in this topic, so here it is:

THE ARROWHEAD FILES
Creature Name: Phasmopteryx ephemerus
Description: One of the few creatures to come from the Mist that was in no way dangerous, this strange flyer utilizes a means of locomotion unknown in any Earth animal, lighter-than-air flight. Its kite-shaped body contains cells of hydrogen gas apparently manufactured by symbiotic microorganisms. It is not known how it eats, as it has no apparent mouth, but the prevailing opinion is that it is a filter-feeder on some kind of airborne zooplankton found in the Mist. While it is large, measuring over 20 feet across its body, it is by no means immune to predators, and we have seen several being killed and eaten by the Mist's airborne predators.

And I guess the more skilled predators are those hideous flying four-winged pterosaur thingy creatures? ;)
