Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

In this project there is an island somewhere on Earth an island the size of North America has fauna deposits at the end of each period (permian, triassic, jurassic, cretaceous, and paleogene) of animals from that entire period by some unknown power. By that same power, none of the creatures outside of the continent arrives to that continent, and none of the creatures from the continent arrives to the continent. Also the continent never experiences a mass extinction besides the fauna deposits.

I want this project to be open, and to focus at the end of each period right before the fauna deposit occurs (so we look at the end-Permian deposits at the end-Triassic, all the way to modern time).

At the end-Permian until the mid Triassic the environment is this: 1/3 swamp, 1/3 dry forest with seasonal rains, and 1/3 dry scrub prairie with seasonal rains, but less rain than the dry forest. At the end of the mid-Triassic it starts to shift toward the Triassic environments, which I haven't decided yet.

List of creatures:
Synapsids:

Archaeothyris: 20 inches long.

Haptodus: 5 feet long.

I was not intending on depositing any large species like Tyrannosaurus rex. But maybe Baryonyx as it was a piscivore.

And I've already got a list for Triassic Island when Permian Island is done.

yes, but not every species. It's like the Great American Interchange at the end of every era, except that the species are selected instead of being random.

Yeah, I'm going to post a new topic for Triassic Island and merge the Permian Island creatures with my list of Triassic fauna that are going to arrive at the continent.

And I have a few more species to post.

Arrowhead/Diplocaulus/Swamps and rivers: An 8 feet long diplocaulus descendant, their snout has grown longer along with their legs. The end of their snout has become curved for prey to be unable to escape, similar to the proterosuchids and erythrosuchids.
Posted Image

Allovivera/Galechirus/Plains: A 2 foot long galechirus, they have gone from eating insects to eating small creatures like mice dicynodon and false lizards.
Posted Image

Deinodentis/Anteosaurus/Plains: A 15 foot long anteosaurus, their elongated teeth have grown into saber teeth and have grown a mane along their back and a lighter one around their neck.
Posted Image

Knobhead/Lystrosaurus/Swamps: A 6 foot long lystrosaurus, their beak has grown more pronounced and have grown a knob on their head that serves no apparent purpose. Their neck has also grown.
Posted Image

Rhinosaurus/Scutosaurus/Plains: A 10 foot long scutosaurus, its armored head has grown a crest at the back and a horn at the front. They live in huge herds.

Actually, the knobheads were meant to resemble (if they do) even toed ungulates like giraffe or antelope, but I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Oh, so you mean the rhinosaurus. I actually completely forgot about those.

And what do you mean "what are the knobheads"? I posted them 4 posts ago!

Well, it's mostly a swamp dweller, and amphibians are the main animals of the swamps. Big non-swimming animals just don't do well in a swamp.

I know that. It's just easier to say "Permian Island" than "Permian Continent".

'Permian landmass.' 'Permian land'. 'Permian metaworld'.
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.
