| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! You all know the speculative evolution dinosaur project. If you don't it's right here: http://www.unet.univie.ac.at/~a0000265/Spec/index.html So, what if a virus killed all the dinosaurs in Spec? In 50 million years, how do you think life would be with only the dinosaurs gone? Remember, they all have to be descended from Spec animals. But first, what do you think will take control? The remaining reptiles, birds, or mammals? |

I speculated on Spec's future as you can see if you search enough, but people got so confused I had to stop |

Mammals would most likely take over, exept with less diversity than our present day since there would be so much more Bird diversity that could take niches from Mammals. |

Actually most of those aren't the true birds, and toothed birds didn't survive KT for a reason (even though this is a disease, so only dinos go extinct). I think that mammals would have an easy diversification, not a suppressed one like in this world as birds don't have that much diversity as mammals and it's not as tropical as it was after the KT extinction. |

Well, searching back through Alternative Evolution I found JohnFas's future spec world: Spec Of course in that one there was no mass extinction. And I don't think a virus would be able to kill off a group as diverse as dinosaurs, some event would probably be needed. |

I just said a virus because I just want dinosaurs out of the picture, if there was KT we wouldn't know who would survive and who wouldn't. |
