| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. New Zealand is so wacked. There could be cow-like tahrs, small omnivorous cat-like opposums, squirrel possums, mole-like hedgehogs, cat-like stoats, and mega wallabies. Say goodbye to a bird-dominated New Zealand and hello to the mammals! |

i say taht new zealand will be like madagaskar..there will be descendants of rats(only rats,no dixonian predatory rats, just only rodents, like today...they diverse into many rodent niches) tahr will be small forest antelope.Posumm evolve into glidding and monkey form.Cat niche is occupied by quofellis, stoat will be something like....stoat :D...mole like hedgehog is cool.Wallaby will be quadrapedal(see chamois wallaby...all wallabies will be descendants of quadrapedall ancestor) |

Why does there have to be an ice age? It prevents rain forests, which lead to less diversity in life. As for ungulate bandicoots, I say that it's possible. Hoofs evolved in condylarths, arctostylopids, re-evolved in horses, perissodactyls, artiodactyls, mesonychids, litopterns, notungulates, pyrotheria, dinoceratans, and astrapotheres. Then paenungulates (proboscids, sirenians, hyrax, embrithopods, and desmotylans) and the pig-footed bandicoot all evolved proto-hooves. So hooves ahoy! |

there will be only small ice age,but thanks to then, there are many reemnerged islands and lands(zealandia)...rainforest will be there too,but mainly are there grasslands, forests. At antarctida is tundra and thanks to warm gulf at two points(small area at east and west antarctida) is forests. At eurasia and america will be something like pleistocene mammoth steppe |

i dont think that wombats evolve into hoofed animals, but from they will evolved largest australia herbs...something between diprotodonts, rhinos and hyppos.... bandicoots have got more potentional(see propably extinct pig footed bandicoot) In this future happened medium sized extinction(something like neocene project) What should I start?(example-middle europe forest) Edited by Ook, Apr 6 2010, 12:28 PM.

I've got a question, how does rain forest exist in North America? In an ice age, if rain forests exist they will be limited to the equator. |
