Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

few important european trees
After human era, many species of plants dissapeared. Many characteristic trees, like beech or oaks are no more, but survivors of Holocene retains and diverge into new forms

,,Sage tree,,
Arbonepeta sylvatica

Sage tree its not in fact a sage(salvia),but its closely related to Sages. Its medium sized tree, capable of reaching heights of up to 25m.It has a typical lifespan of 150-200 years.Leaves are egg shaped, wide at base and about 6 cm long.Colour of leaves are green.Flowers are similliar to orher Lamiaceales and are produced in 20 cm long panicles.Colour of flowers ranging from Light blue to purple. Its pollinated by insects.
Its common in europe, ranging from Atlantic coasts to Foursea in 300-800 m altitude.

Nigeritis argentum
This is very common tree. Its descendant of Aspen. Its rather large tree, capable of reaching heights of up to 50 m.Its trunk is very dark, ranging from dark brown in young trees,to black in older trees.Leaves are egg shaped, narrow at base and due to short hair looks silvery. Its typical lifespan is about 500 years. Its pollinated by wind and its important forest tree in 500-1000 m altitude.

Urgh aspens they are a nightmare we try to get rid of them all in kent because they are an invasive species...these and sycamores would probably be one of the best survivors in a future scenario ^_^

Almost all bigger animals are descendant of small animals like shrews, possums and various rodents, but at some places characteristic holocene fauna never goes extinct.Basicaly its isolated places-Hawai,Madagascar,New Zealand and various other islands. This fauna is isolated from rest of the world, except few causes->primates.On madagascar, few species of lemurs survives Holocene and various extinction events.THey later recover from extinction and spread to Old world. That push back various smaller animals, that are potentional for becoming ,,primate like,, (there is one smaller exception with New world family of lemur like squirels).

Do you like it ,,family by family,,? or like almost all other projects-by place?

could be great euasiafrican mountains(atlas mountains, northern africa, former mediterran sea, turkey and caucasus) strong barrier for a ungulates?I have idea about some small, really small ungulate survive in south africa, but i want to keep them only in africa
they never evovle in that mountains to goat like forms because one family of secret animal evolved and keep niches of mountains grazers everywhere in eurasia and mediterran mountains

Protitanomuridae

After Holocene extinction event, world became place, where no mammal is bigger than average sized cat.But nature always find its way,and giant browsing descendants of numerous and fertile murids appeared soon after H-T event. These first Protitanomurids were closely similliar to its ancestors, and differed mainly by bigger size.Biggest diversity reached this family somewhat between 25-30 MYF when they lived in numerous form in all Africa,Europe,Asia and even North america, largest rodent of all times,Incisititan,4 m tall in shoulders, roamed endless plains of Northern Africa and East Asia. But in they shade, more derived groups of mammals evolved and outcompeted them in almost all places, except Africa, which was later isolated from rest of Old world by giant barrier mountains. All three surviving species looks rather primitive,5 toed plantigrades, with typical rodent looking head, and thick, medium sized tail. Two genus exist,Abscotherium and Pateoprora. Both Abscotherium species are rainforest loners, but Pateoprora relevus tends to live in small groups.

-species-

Abscotherium pictus
Abscotherium maior

Pateoprora relevus

_____

species description and maybe pictures not today ;)

thanks, maybe i add one cryptic species living in mountain rainforests of south asia

thanks for help with ungulates ;! another help request..what should i choose?old world monkeys are extinct, but they should be replaced(as replaced i mean animals living in similliar niches) by malagasy lemurs, which rafted back to mainland and in south america are new world monekys replaced by arboreal marsupials OR newworld monkeys invades old world?

indeed,i have lot of ideas, just need to find time to writebut now i am doing homework to english, need write story, and next week i need to repair my mark from Chemie + big exams from english(exam + essay)

i have idea about fish eating anserine(converging on mergansers, but not very related) living in big colonies on atlantic ocean coasts)
aquatic bat, descendet from Myotis(fish eating bat have no probelms with swimming),various bats-analogues to seabirds, bird hunting bats..
ungulate lagomorphs, but not that stereotypical ones, ,,rhinoceros,, like lagomorphs(another lineage) with bony hords, several semi aquatic species also exist(their bony horn are more like,,snorkel,,
several lineages of artylodactyls, all descendet from dwarf antelopes, like suni,or chevrovtains-some of them use tusks as ,,weapon,, diverse family of ,,horse deers,, ,desmostylid- like chevrovtains,giant(500 kg) armored turtles/tortoises(or what the hell, just mean that land, herbivorous ones) with doedicurus or ankylosaurus like ,,club,,
,,falimingo ducks,, descendet from ,,shoveler,, ducks

antarctica will be world of birds, oversized version of ancient new zealand, also with more bats, reptiles are present too,but due to colder climate, they didnt became dominant and just stay in form of small insectivorous animals.
Also remake of Navisauria
