| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Welcome to the site, Bexi! So I'm gussing that huamns are extinct, then? They must have gone not too far into our future, given that many species that are likely to go extinct from human actions, such as rhinoceri and hippopotami, are still alive. |

Welcome to the site! First, I would like to go into some things. First, rhinos and hippos will be extinct, like Ddraig Goch said. But hyraxes can evolve to rhino-like forms. Also, the fauna of Asia and North America is greatly different from Europe. So you shouldn't just say "just like Europe". But other than that, good project! |

But you also have to remember all the other African predators too. There are secretary birds, ratels (honey badger), african canids, african felids (only do the small ones as the pantherinae will go extinct), hyaenas, civets, and baboons (they have the potential). Your South American rat descendant is cool. Wish I could draw as well as you. Your hyaena dog, is it a hyaena descendant or a dog descendant? If you could post a survivor and extinct list would be nice. |

are you talking about jackals being the only surviving canid in Africa or in the world? Because I don't see the red fox going extinct anytime soon. I can see terror bird descendants from serinemas (--EDIT-- I see them more likely to become terror birds than caracaras), and also from secretary birds. Remember, there are also reptiles, arthropods, snails, and amphibians (are they extinct in this project?). If you could put a descriptive post about the creatures with things like height (please do it with a real measurement of feet or meters, comparing it with a human doesn't actually tell me a lot about the height) and descendants it would be nice. Also, are you going to onto the ocean or past 30 MYF? And what was your inspiration for this project? Edited by Pando, Mar 10 2010, 02:37 PM.

oh insects, snails and other are like todays, but there is also some new familys...for example there will be big bang of crustaceans....almost all marine mammals didnt survive age of man About canids.. survives jackals, foxes(grex fox in north america evolve into something that look as cat),coyotes and some feral dogs almost all big cat species extinct but neofelis nebulosa survive amphibians are not extinct(but at the end of age of man they were strongly reduced by fungus disease, but many species are very adaptable, like bufo marinus or rana sp.) in mediterran mountains will be lot of amphibians in caves many species evolved from same descendant, for example maras gave rise of lineage of antelope like rodents... at plans are website Oceans is at the plans too(there will be many species of fish, but squids ans shrimps dominate too) oh sometimes i want to be english native speaker edit: when i create new species,i must draw picture and after this i gave him name and describe it(but no species have name :D,i want to give him latin name) Edited by Ook, Mar 10 2010, 02:53 PM.

But sharks will survive right? I mean, they're one of the oldest living creatures, with the order stretching back to 100 million years after the Cambrian explosion, and have survived the P-Tr extinction. For the whale replacement the 4 biggest choices are dolphins, seals, sharks, and squid. |

Well, I used sea cucumbers for my whale replacements, but they don't really take off until 90 million years from now. |

many fish species survive, sharks too, tere will be descendant of leopard seal,3 m long marine predator of fishes, marine mammals, birds and reptiles whale replacement will be on some places different...there will be 6m fish than give birth, not lay egg, sharks and propably some mammals there will be full marine iguanas, crocodiles and snakes turtles will be in ocean too but all today marine species will be declined by people i have idea about species of doplhin like platypus that live in small sea in meganezia propably most species of dolphins will be declined, but freshwater amazon doplhins survive and in future go back to ocean |

your drawings remind me of metazoica and river dolphins in my view have no chance of surviving in the future (too few species and mankind are to blame) |

Oh come on, Truteal, he draws better than me and I bet he draws better than you. This is speculative evolution, not art criticism. So the pictures are "OK" rather than "OMG Michelangelo has been reborn" - they're still really useful for conceptualising the critters! |
