Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

What if amphibians had evolved six legs and (taken from the third eye project) the parietal (third) eye had evolved into a real 3rd eye? How would animals evolve with 6 legs and 3 eyes? And how would we look like? And it only affects tetrapods, every non amphibian, synapsid, reptile, mammal, and bird (if the last 4 would of evolved) are not affected.

First thing I thought, I imagine tree dwelling creatures would have evolved earlier, since three eyes offer a better sense of depth, something that you need if you are to swing from branch to branch...

Also, since life wouldn't need to develop special techniques to stand on two feet (it wouldn't have to, since you can stand on four legs and still have two free appendages, if you have six limbs), dinosaurs might have never evolved (since they evolved from a small lizard that could run in two legs), and tool manipulation could have started earlier. Following that, intelligent species would emerge early in history, since tool manipulation could help a creature develop imagination.
Everybody wants to find a buried treasure chest.
But no one wants to bury one... If you do, be my guest.

That is possible, but how would a tree dwelling species go around on 6 legs? Wouldn't it have to be like a really long weasel to avoid leg clashing? Also, with 6 legs bigger animals can develop with the support of the fifth and sixth legs, and frogs will be able to see 360 :p

I didn't realize about the rib structure, I'm guessing they would have double rib cases. And about the 3 eyes, they might have a slightly elongated cranium to fit it.

I wonder if the additional pair of limbs you mean come from a pair of caudal fins that Crossopterygians bore.

Those ones acted mostly as sails, rather as functional fins alike those that would have brought to actual terrestrial limbs.

If you want additional limbs, maybe you should come much more back to Silurian and pushing a Brochoadmones acanthode up to Crossopterygian-like form. And then go for it.

About third eye, well, early fishes had the pineal eye exposed, but it does act mostly as circadian organ, measuring day lenght regulating activity (as in current vertebrate lifeforms and accounting further modifications).
Even if you assume the pineal eye being exposed also in terrestrial (and likely humanoid?) forms, probably that would not have optical fuction.

Maybe you'd like to get a girl like this. Adding another pair of arms of course *lol* :P
