| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. As of late, I've found myself forming this idea for a different sort of earth. Still has mammals, reptiles, avians, all those fun things...but things are just...different. I've been sketching mostly mammals so far, but they don't quite conform with creatures currently on earth, even though they seem like they'd fit in well. So I'll be working on that here, working up a design where something changed around the time mammals just started to get going. I'll accept any suggestions and contributions as well, hint hint. ![]() ![]() A small bear-raccoon like creature with dexterous hands. ![]() A long-necked deer-like grazer, similar to a deer and giraffe. ![]() A heavy-set apex predator. Reminds me of a dire wolf. ![]() A clever, arboreal lemur-like species, and something between a rabbit and a squirrel. More pending... |

Glad to see you back, Agatha, your stuff's always fun. Are the parrotdogs actually parrots? That caniform is clearly digitigrade. Why does the caption claim otherwise? What's the Trunko's lifestyle? Eating kelp maybe? Any idea about its relative there (the very long tusks look like they'd get in the way of eating...) |

I was trying to make it plantigrade, but it wound up walking on it's toes because I drew the back legs too short. I'll do a redraw later with it's proper monkeylegs. The parrotdog is not a parrot at all, but merely resembles one due to their similar behavior and diet. I'm not sure what they're closer too. THey're probably closer, genetically, to...I don't know. Some type of terror bird? Dodos? Kiwis? It's a good question. And I'm not sure what the trunko eats. Only males have tusks, though, which they use to defend the pod and all that. I assume that they'd eat kelp or...pff, I dunno. I'm working on it. And I'm surprised there's not more comments on the wtfailrus. As I've started calling that...walrus...elephant...tapir...seal...thing. |

trunko could eat sea grass, kelps or something like that. With trunk they can move sea grass|kelp to mouth. They could live in small groups, with form 2 to 5 females and 1 male,in rare situations, there could be two males. Thanks to its tusks, they could defend our harem from bigger sea creatures

Plus, the trunks would be useful in that they could poke 'em up to breath like snorkels or something. A derp derp. On a side note, I might be using these creatures in an ARG/RPG style thing I'm going to be testing, where the players would be a group of researchers/field expedition team stranded in an alternate universe for a year. It wouldn't be expressly Alternate Evolution, but it would be the base of it. However, there are...other things that would be going on. Like giant sky jellyfish aliens. ... ...So. ...if anybody's interested in that. |

I'd like to see that. On a side note, what's an ARG? I know that RPG stands for Role-Playing Game and MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. |

ARG is Alternate Reality Game. It's a fancy term for what's more or less just another type of RPG, typically done online through fake websites. |
