Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

After I watched Avatar,

(Most animals were awesome, but like most people here, the Navi were a disapointment)

I was thinking about Unobatamium on other worlds besides pandora, while I was watching one of the X-men movies.

When I saw the scene were the Antagonist (big word) pulls the Iron out of the security guards body I though about What would Happen to animals with unobatamium in their blood or body?

I immediatly began to imagine Kite-like aliens equiped with sacks of unobatamuim keeping them aloft, floating through the sky.

Could this work?

Are you plausible?

I agree. It depends on your definition of "cool". If in order to be cool they have to be fire breathing, super-flying, nigh-invulnerable, or in any other way unlike anything found on Earth, then yeah the coolest animals are going to be pretty unlikely. If, however, you're happy seeing animals step outside the box in order to further survival, then cool is very likely.
Take a look at my exobiology subforum of the planet Nereus!
