Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Are the Chimera from the Resistance: Fall of Man videogame possable? By this I mean not the invashion of earth but the biology of them. Could it work?

Can you maybe give some info on them?

Sorry not trying to be an inconvience, it's just because I'm not old enough to get on the site and Wikipedia is useless for me.

Well from what I gather they humans infected with a virus that makes them very strong, very quick healing but prone to overheating.

Not a whole lot of information is given about the chimera in the game or elsewhere, and I really don't know enough about them to say whether or not they are plausible.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Well, I looked into it and... well, not naturally.

The virus, from what I gathered, is A: some sort of massive retrovirus, or a macrovirus that can destroy the original DNA in the cell and replace it somehow. And do it without completely killing the cell, so cells of the Chimera must be a lot like ours. Which raises questions about their metabolism up, but we can deal with that later.

The virus must be massive, or the genetic blue-print (I'm not sure if they ARE using DNA, it didn't specify) or use a more efficent alternative that still works in our cells. For the sake of beleivability, or for the sake of human understanding, let's assume the sooner. This would be the biggest virus, if not DNA strand ever seen. There's, what, six different castes? Not counting the changes tht happen as they grow (the phenotype appears to change dramatically as the organism grows, compare Crawler to Leaper). Amount of genes don't automatically lead to complexity of an organism, admittedly, but that's still a lot of genetic information to carry (the forms, how to create the transformations, especially when mutlipe hosts are turned into a singular organism)

Then comes the metabolism. For this thing to work like this I can't imagine it evolving naturally, so it'd have to come from some ET plan to xenoform Earth. So, why not have the creatures capable of cooling off biologically instead of with the cooling systems? We could say that there last encounter with Earth was when it was a lot cooler, but it wasn't, according to Wikipedia it was hotter then. So, aliens are stupid, got it.

All that asside, it's doable. Not efficent by any standard, I mean, a race that could create that should be able to do a better job, like actually using animals (if not plants) too and not just humans, but doable.

Still doesn't seem like we have much to speculate the evolution of besides this Virus which I doubt could possibley be natural if able to do these things and of alien origin.

So what can we use this topic for?

Maybe the aliens want to get rid of humans only. They probably want to colonize Earth but leaving the current food chains intact.

And in Resistance 1, they say that the "more monstrous" creatures were made of various bodies, not just one.

I still think it's stupid. With the technology they had, like those spider-like tripod machines, they could just sit back and let the machines do all the work, and then go down to the surface and stablish their colonies.

Wikia article for those that asked information on subject.

The website in the first post isn't working for me.

I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong

"I was born in the dark. I went out into the light, and your Majesty, it is my displeasure to inform you that I have returned to the dark. I envision a Seoul of towering buildings filled with Western establishments that will place herself back above the Japanese barbarians. Great things lie ahead for the Kingdom, great things. We must take action, your Majesty, without hesitation, to further modernize this still ancient kingdom."-Min Young-ik to Empress Myeongseong

...Yeah, it looks like I knew that.

I don't think they are trying to keep the local food chains intact, if so they wouldn't be cooling the planet, they'd be reworking their creations to work in this one. So, I think they are trying to get the Earth a little more like their world, assuming they are truley aliens.

Perhaps they don't just want colonies. Perhaps they want ready made slaves. Think about it, they all are in a sort of hierarchy controlled by the angels, maybe the alien designers are higher up and run them. Therefor, easy made slaves. I just don't see why they are using us only.
