| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Yeah, go on ahead. Until Parasky PMs me back about granting Vultur-10 mod powers for this project, you will have to add your own polls for the topics you created. |

It is February 1st, and I appear to be moderating this project now, so... the summary of votes so far... Vege-bowl: 1 accept Finger Neospoggia: 3 accept Wave jelly: 2 accept, 1 reject Bubble polyp: 3 accept Greenwisp: 2 accept, 1 reject Frecklejelly: 2 accept Macehead spikeworm: 2 accept Star-cows: 1 accept Bluemud spikeworm: 2 accept Rock trilobites: 1 accept, 1 reject The rock trilobites are the only tie as of now, and since it's my creature I don't think it would be appropriate for me to break the tie, so ... can someone else please vote one way or the other? When everyone is done voting I will move the topics (once I get the ability to) and we can start on the Ordovician. Edited by Vultur-10, Feb 1 2010, 01:26 PM.

One thing I noticed is missing from the list is a predator, there's nothing to take the place of Anomalocaris. |

Yeah, true. Well, we'll have to fill more ecological roles for the Ordovician. Which is ... starting now! I guess the deadline for Ordovician critters is Feb. 30th. So, floor is open in Deliberation for the Ordovician creatures. And I started a thread in Biomes and Classification for discussing ecosystems in the Cambrian and how these creatures fit together. (EDIT: Canis Lupis said more complete descriptions would be needed for the Ordovician and later, and I guess I'll go with that. Try to include habitat/range, size, what it eats, how it reproduces, etc.) Edited by Vultur-10, Feb 4 2010, 05:07 PM.

Seems like this really hasn't had much activity recently... We need contributions from someone other than me for the Ordovician, otherwise I'll have to vote on all my own stuff

It's now March, so time to close up submissions for the Ordovician. I will make polls on my threads; for some reason I still can't do this for others' so I will be sending PMs. |

If they exist at all. The extinction thing will be a different thread. |

Can someone else please vote on the Hairplant? It's tied, and if no one else does, I'll have to vote on my own creature. |

The accepted species has been sorted out, so when are we going to decide what survives the extinction? |

Oh, also, let's start putting Silurian species in Deliberation. Since we're starting so late in the month I guess this one will run till April 10th rather than April 1st... |

Okay, when does each project begin? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Sorry, I have been VERY busy with RL recently. I think we should end the Silurian Friday, then spend about a week on the wrapup (voting and the ecosystem thread), then start the Devonian May 1st. That one can end regularly on May 31st, as the school year will be over by then and I will have more time. |
