Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

Okay. Since we have yet another tie, I'm going to make an executive decision.

So we can actually get to speculating, I shall include both Echinodermata and Lucivermia, the two pesky phlya who have got into a tie.

So here's the phlya for our two main kingdoms:

Kingdom Alterplantae:
  • Glucascaphia

Kingdom Altebestia:
  • Neospoggia
  • Cnidaria
  • Sigmatatora
  • Lodihelminthes
  • Lucivermia
  • Arthrochaeta
  • Trilobita
  • Echinodermata
  • Cephalostia

So let's get to speculating. We shall start in the late Cambrian.

So mods and admin (or if Parasky wishes to assign me or someone else with this task): could you please set up three subcategories in this subforum?

The subcategories, as per Parasky's suggestion, are:

Deliberation
Accepted Species
Trashed Species

Once those subcategories are up, please post any creature ideas in deliberation. After a few days, we'll set up a poll and vote whether to accept the creature or not (the creator of the creature may not vote. I can already see bias floating into the poll if we allow them to).

Looks like it will be good, but I think it would take more than a few days to get a good amount of creatures since at times it would be quite slow.

No, I mean for one creature. Not multiple creatures.

Like if we were debating on whether a creature with an elephant description in a grassland habitat:

1. Proposal of idea.
2. Deliberation of the idea.
3. After a few days, put up a poll that says "Accept or Decline This Creature".
4. Based on the results of that poll, we move it to either the accepted species or declined species.

In the kingdom Alterplantae will you be using Division or Phylum as a rank? Both are equivalent, but divisions is used for plants(and once fungi but not anymore) and phyla for animals.
I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong

"I was born in the dark. I went out into the light, and your Majesty, it is my displeasure to inform you that I have returned to the dark. I envision a Seoul of towering buildings filled with Western establishments that will place herself back above the Japanese barbarians. Great things lie ahead for the Kingdom, great things. We must take action, your Majesty, without hesitation, to further modernize this still ancient kingdom."-Min Young-ik to Empress Myeongseong

This all sounds like it is working out nicely.

I will see what I can think up later.

I guess we could use division. I never understood plant taxonomy, so thanks for clearing that up.

New sections are up. That should help organize things a bit so you can get started with the fun stuff.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Thanks Parasky. Are we still going with the plan of giving someone the power to move topics just in this section to keep more organized? Or are we going to leave that to you and the mods?

Anyway, for those wanting to submit, we are in the late Cambrian period. I'll post the phyla in a seperate topic with a description of each phylum's characteristics next to the phylum name.

Start submitting! The fun has just begun! A picture for your creature would be nice, but it isn't a necessity.

What is the limit of the amount of time in history we can speculate over for now? Is this just Late Cambrian only, or are we doing it in bigger chunks of time?

Just late Cambrian for now. Come January 30, we'll vote on creatures that have not yet been voted on. Then we shall move on to the Ordovician.

I would like to see the molluscs evolve similiar forms to our ordovician molluscs, but if i remeber correctly, the ordovician was a major point in the evolution of the eye. So lots of midway stages, maybe?
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Will any polls for the early creatures go up soon?

OK, I've added the polls for the creatures I created (I can't add the others yet but I think I'll be able to later); since I can't vote on these, someone else should ;)
