| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. This is a topic on all the worlds of Nintendo, Konami, and Sega. We will look at the biology, evolutionary history, and then post drawings of possible real-life versions of these characters. This is in the Habitable Zone, because alot of these characters are aliens.

Sounds interesting but how does that fit with the rest of Yoshi? I think either aliens made his species or Humans did. |

Why does Yoshi eat fruit then? I'm sure everyone here has at least heard of Super Mario Sunshine. The whole fruit squirting thing...I don't have to get it for it to be part of the character. |

Well, maybe the fruit squirting is some kind of defense... Some birds like petrels also scare predators off by spitting their half-digested food at them. I also think the Yoshis would be better as alien than an evolved dinosaur. In the games they often eat enemies and turn them into eggs. In a more realistic version this might be no eggs, but actually what Yoshi dung looks like? (Bird´s feces are white, too, and the spots might come from the fruits Yoshis eat) And true eggs (those where actual Yoshis hatch out) would be "camouflaged" as "Yoshi dung". |

That could happen but fallen rotting fruit would mess with the organisms in the gut maybe leading to scavenger like adaptations? |

Most fruit that this creature eats has fallen to the ground meaning they might be at various stages of decomposition. The Microbes in your guts are built to eat certain foods so if a carnivore starts eating decomposed fruit it would need new or improved gut Microbes to deal with the Microbes causing rot. I think the microbes in the gut might be simular to those of scavengers because they have to deal with simular stuff. The difference would be that they need more powerful Microbes since they are eating plants and not carcasses which would make different adaptations. So basicly I think they might develope scavenger like Microbes that are powerful enough to break down fruit. |

Your welcome. And if your going to make it a Dinosaur that is omnivorous, make it a Therizinosaur that never made it fully to a Herbivous form. |

Then the ancestor of Yoshis would have to look similar to Falcarius utahensis. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/48/Falcarius.jpg So, while Falcarius´ descendants become the giant groundsloth-like Therizinosaurs we know, that similar-looking creature would become a scavenger and eventually a rotten fruit eater. It´s neck would become shorter and its head larger, maybe similar to the evolution of Tyrannosaurs. |

Yeah I can see something like that happen but something makes me think it needs a bit more to make a Yoshi? |
