| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

As some may know, I've gota series of stories I'm working on, set in the "Black Void" universe. I'm pretty well set on the human aspect of the universe, but may alien aspects aren't too alien. It could just be my lack of artistic skills, but all my aliens look human. So: anyone interested in creating aliens for "Black Void"? If you are, here's some things you need to know:
I'm just telling you things you can do and things I may do so as to avoid confusion. Anyway, have fun! |

If they're actual dinosaurs, no. Implausible in my opinion. However, if they are dinosaur-like due to convergent evolution, that's okay by me. |

And me. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Well, that six possible races out the window. Still, there's the Synecdoche, but they're quite cliched. |

Cliche is solved by convergent evolution. |

Not too possible, considering the idea. Think Borg crossed with Combine crossed with The Hierarchy. |

As soon as i saw the word 'borg' the alarm bells rung. They can withstand phaser fire? |

@TWLM: They dig tunnels undersand and underground to search for water. During these waterdigs, they find interesting things (gems, previous civilization's things, what have you) and bring them back to the surface. They have two sexes, and usually breed shortly after coming out of hibernation. |

Okay, Canis, here's my submission. However, all I have done is drawn the creature. I'll leave it to you, or anyone else, actually, to give it a background story. It doesn't have a name, either, because I couldn't think of one. The cerature formed from a doodle, so I had nothing behind it originally. Just one thing - the things on stalks are its' nostrils, and its' only eyes are very basic ocelli. |

Well, it's ocelli are only capable of seeing light and dark, and its' nostrils are only really used for breathing... |

It can hear us, perhaps? It could have echo-location, which would explain the declining ocelli. |
