Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Sentient Aliens; anyone interested?

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

As some may know, I've gota series of stories I'm working on, set in the "Black Void" universe.

I'm pretty well set on the human aspect of the universe, but may alien aspects aren't too alien. It could just be my lack of artistic skills, but all my aliens look human.

So: anyone interested in creating aliens for "Black Void"?

If you are, here's some things you need to know:
  • If I like your concept, it will be used in stories, and possibly a book
  • I may not accept your idea, but I generally will. But there's always that chance
  • I reserve the right to edit anything about your creature (which will do quite often). But before I make changes, I'll consult the creator first
  • If at all possible, please describe the planet your sentient evolved on
  • If you wish, you can create a few other species (non-sentient) that also exist on your sentient's planet
  • You can submit multiple sentients
  • You may name your creatuer whatever you want, but be aware that I might change it
  • A picture is not required, though try to provide one if you can

I'm just telling you things you can do and things I may do so as to avoid confusion.

Anyway, have fun!

I'd be happy to create some ET's for you - except that I haven't a clue what the "Black Void" Universe is.

"Black Void" is just my literary name for our universe.

It has the same physical laws as our universe because it is our universe.

So as long as you understand our universe, you're in the clear.

Gotcha... Feel free to use Vabmojer as a base planet, say for colonies. (Although on the website, it has human colonists only.)

Are we allowed to create humanoid aliens, so long as they are conceivable and not too close to humans?

Yes, you are allowed to create humanoids.

As long as the humanoids aren't human.

Humanoids are bad.
I like reptilians.
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

Well, Reptillians are humanoid. That's kind of paradoxical.

And yet not as paradoxical as the paradoxical frog. Now THERES a paradox (the frog, I mean)

I know we shouldn't assume alien intelligence to be in the form of a human, but that doesn't mean to say that it can't be.

Well, they're all up to you guys.

If you've got a sentient Oceanus, submit.

And Ddraig Coch and Holbenilord: could you try to stay on topic?

Are you plausible?

Humanoid is the only body shape for sapients that we know works.
Take a look at my exobiology subforum of the planet Nereus!

And that's why I'm okay with humanoid.

I just don't want Star Trek-ish aliens. I actually want aliens (for the record, I consider a majority of Star Wars aliens aliens and I consider the "Avatar" aliens aliens).

Well I'm going to have a go at creating a sentient alien.

Trionids
The home planet of these aliens is a moon orbiting a gas giant, it is smaller than Earth and therefore has lower gravity. The moon has liquid water which covers around 80% of the surface. Were there is land it is covered in "plants". The "vertebrates" are a bottom feeding fish-like creature with two large fins for moving and a third limb on it's chest used for feeding. On the land is were they dominate. There are two large continents and a one small island continent which all use to be joined. The land "vertebrates" are called tripods as many of them use all three limbs for walking although some have evolved to walk on two legs and use the third limb for manipulation. They have a head with a beak like mouth for feeding and their eyes are large and cover a lot of the top of their head and are similar to Earth's insect's eyes in structure.

The Trionids are about the size of a large domestic cat and evolved on the island continent, but have spread to all the other land masses. They walk on two legs and use their third arm and bird like beak for manipulating objects, they have three toes on their feet and three fingers on their hand. They have a short tail and have a crest on their throat which can come out to be used for communication although the usually communicate through a series of clicking noises. They are omnivorous eating both plant matter and hunting other organisms. They like all other "vertebrates" have two brains one in the back of their head and one at the base of their neck, both are expanded and have a shortened neck and a widen head and neck. They are suprisenly swift moving through the landscape with ease. They are a brownish yellow colour with red stripes on their tail and a bright red neck crest. They breed through openings on their under belly like all other "vertebrates" and lay a egg-like object which is carried in a small pouch under the third arm until birth when they are looked after until adulthood. They have a female and male sex. They are a successfully spread species.

Sorry no picture.

Also I didn't know if these were meant to be space fearing or not.

Humanoid is the only body shape for sapients that we know works.
WHY!??!
As I see, all creature that can use and make tools can get sapient

Why Eosapien or Birrins can't be sapient aliens?? As their creator says Birrins are advanced aliens

These aren't for Canis Lupis' project because their aren't mine
