Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Registration is free and instantaneous.

This is the actual project of the speculation topic that Reedstilt originally posted.

This is a world where man never evolved, and so far no other sapient species has achieved dominance. This takes place 7 myh from this current time, 15 my from when homonids are supposed to have evolved at the longest estimate. For the sake of the project, any species that became extinct during this period of time (8mya - Now) that could have been due to man, we shall attribute to man at the highest extent scientifically possible for that creature, so we have more creatures to manipulate. This does of course mean mammoths. For mammoths, DO NOT GO OVERBOARD. They're basically only just clinging on by a piece of course insulating hair. Same applies to Sabertoothed cats, though they are a bit more successful.

Current members of the project
SIngemeister (Australasia/Oceania)
JohnFaa (South America+Malagsy)
El Squibbonator (North America)
The Dodo (Mauritius + Mascarene Islands)
Dialforthedevil (British Isles + Siberia)
Bexi (Continental Europe)

Please feel free to join, though do ask.

well,i like south america, could i do SA instead of europe?I have more ideas for this.(i have now prepared 3 probosceans, some tapirs, two big rodents and relict terror bird)

Cuvieronius minimus

Maximum heigh is 2m in shoulders, but average is about 1,6-1,8 m.Its body is 3 m long.tusks of both gender are straight, downward and rather smaller.Trunk have two ,, fingers,,.Diet consist, like in all probosceans leaves, grass and herbs. Its ears looks more like ears of elephas than ears of loxodonta.
They live in tropical part of south america,in all types of forests, usually near water.Males are loners and mee females only during mating season.Females live in small groups of 2-3 mature females with young.THey usually live near water and spend lot of time grazing on aquatic plants.Populations which lives in areas with big seasonal floods tends to migrate to unflooded areas. Its predators are mainly big cats, but crocodiels and caymans could also kill adult elephant.
Pregnancy is 20 months long, sexual maturity comes in 9-10 years, average lifespan is 40-50 years.

Yup. Nice animal. Smilodons are still alive, remember.

No, they went extinct before humanity due to North American predators.

Sorry, Bex, but the premise of the original topic, which I intend to stay faithful to is 'Australopithecus never evolves into other hominids'

@Pando, you out posted me.
