| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! This is the actual project of the speculation topic that Reedstilt originally posted. This is a world where man never evolved, and so far no other sapient species has achieved dominance. This takes place 7 myh from this current time, 15 my from when homonids are supposed to have evolved at the longest estimate. For the sake of the project, any species that became extinct during this period of time (8mya - Now) that could have been due to man, we shall attribute to man at the highest extent scientifically possible for that creature, so we have more creatures to manipulate. This does of course mean mammoths. For mammoths, DO NOT GO OVERBOARD. They're basically only just clinging on by a piece of course insulating hair. Same applies to Sabertoothed cats, though they are a bit more successful. Current members of the project SIngemeister (Australasia/Oceania) JohnFaa (South America+Malagsy) El Squibbonator (North America) The Dodo (Mauritius + Mascarene Islands) Dialforthedevil (British Isles + Siberia) Bexi (Continental Europe) Please feel free to join, though do ask. Nice work, like to hear more of it. Question: If no one has taken Mauritius and the other Mascarene islands can I have them? Edited by The Dodo, Oct 27 2009, 01:48 AM.

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Always good to hear Name: Everage's Drop-Tiger, Dame-Tiger Scientific name: Occumbotigris Everagii (Everage's Drop-Tiger) Length: Average - 1.7 Metres, Maximum - 2.5 Metres Height: Average - 1.2 metres, Maximum - 1.8 metres Mass: Average - 400 kg, Maximum - 650 kg Lifespan: 8 - 19 years Diet: Mostly large herbivores. Will supplement with smaller animals and carrion. Dame-Tigers are the largest of the Drop Tigers, and the third largest species of carnivorous marsupial. Like all Drop-Tigers, and their close relatives, the Drop Bears, they are noted for their strange method of attack - they climb trees, hide, and when a suitable item of prey comes along, they jump onto it and use their incredible biteforce, and blade-like incisors to pierce the jugula or windpipe of the prey animal. They are not to be confused with Marsipards, who go in trees for an altogether different reason. Dame-Tigers tend to be most common around New South Wales, where the widest spread biome is sparce forest, and the greatest majority of trees tend to be thick branched enough for these heavy animals to comfortably sit on them and not have to dig their claws into the bark to stop themselves falling out of trees. They are named after the character created by Barry Humphries ddue to the rather extravagant markings around the eyes of the females. Like most of the Thylacoleonidia family, especially the arborial ones, the mother takes very good care of her young, looking after them until they can hunt themselves. For the first few months of their pups' lives, they are kept in her pouch, and from then on they live in the same tree as their mother, feeding on her kills. Like my Different World project, I'm trying desperately to make it active once again. the problem is, people look at my topics, and don't post in them. Look at DW. 5 pages, and 880 something views. More than damned near anything else. |

Can you say which herbivores? Or do you need ideas for herbivores? Sorry about posts, i'm trying to limit them to when i can make a difference. |
