| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Trying to get some outside insight on this. It's in desperate need of revision and I'm trying to get back into it. Any ideas, words of wisdom, etc.? Concepts are welcome. Post comments here: http://zippo4k.deviantart.com/gallery/#Terrasaurus Edited by ItHasTeeth, Oct 7 2009, 08:45 PM.

Might be a bit... this is gonna be a real stop-and-go type project since I have other pieces I'm working on as well (like the rats of the Fallout games). |

Well, dragons are my speciality, so i'd like to contribute. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Yay! Also, I just found some old artwork I might post sometime..Another thing about the mammals... I'm finding that a lot of archaic groups are poorly represented, mostly made up of a skull or a few teeth but little else... ...How frustrating! D: |

I used to draw thousands of dragons, but they've all gone through fantasizasation. And their wings were too small to support their bulk. |

I wonder, will you be representing some mythological mammals, like unicorns, which in any case could be primitive horses ? |

Unicorns don't like it when you talk about that. They think of themselves as higher beings. Drakes? Salamanders(the mythical kind)? The Loch Ness Monster? |

Maybe perytons. In case you don't know, these are mythological deer with wings that kill people; first their shadows are human, but then they fit their shape once they kill someone. They could be winged feathered dragons. As for the shadow thing, no, unless they can manipulate light |

Bending light is a bit too supernatural (though I can completely believe it being done through artificial means.) Ugh... and there's just something about Perytons that just weirds me out (it may be the use of human hearts in their mating rituals). I need to get back to working on the dragon groups again. Yay for dragons, as for any dragon ideas, what about some bone-crunching scavengers, though instead of looking badass, instead they're mongoose shaped with small wings, and awkward blunt-teeth, though they do have sharp quills on they're back to deter predators

As far as cold climates, I guess dragons would be able to fair in them considering dinosaurs dwelt in Alaska back when it's geographic position would have made it's winters much harsher then they are now. |

Yeah, plus most dinosaurs (including ornithopods) were covered in some sort of fluff, and you do have have dragons covered in integumentation, the only thing they'd have to do is lose the wings to conserve body heat...maybe the Tetrapodimorphs would do be in such climates But I'm sure there could be big mammalian herbivores here, since they lack any competitors (I think).

Draco Maritimus? Yeah, i'm a bit sad about dragons. How about a Forty-metre apocalypse drake? Obviously, it can't fly. And to cont. my previous dragon flight physics, a higher pressure, higher oxygen conc, and lower gravity would be beneficial. |
