| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Are you plausible?

I've had a lot of comments in my thread about the planet Nereus and its life forms about favorites, so I've decided to put up a poll for that purpose. This is just a list of what I've made so far, and I'll continue making more, in which case I might put together another poll. For now the first couple of dozen creatures are available to choose from. Here's a list of them with a brief explanation for a reminder: Basker The big-mouthed beachcomber that takes a dip in the water for something to eat! Bearded Drake The soaring sea dragon with a powerful set of front-mounted pincers for snatching up swimmers! Blight The primitive bottom dweller that can spear swimmers even from a distance! Blueback Chaparro The brightly colored flyer with better things to do than gather its own food... so it steals it! Cavalier Kentro The two-legged runner sporting a wicked rapier of a lower jaw! Cloudrocket The high flyer that runs and runs to catch up with the sun (but it's sinking)! Colossus Carm The long-necked giant with an impressive array of head spikes! Common Fish Dragon The iconic coastal monster that defies gravity when it takes to the skies! Dwarf Bundler The tiny brachiator with an unusual method of carrying the food it gathers! Flag Raptor The speedy pack hunter with a complex method of silent communication! Gargoyle The aggressive flyer perched on the neck of a true giant! Goldwave The brightly colored ocean swimmer that blends into its vegetative surroundings! Great Anguil The serpentine swimmer with a pair of long, grasping jaws! Magnificent Strider The largest animal on Nereus, big enough to singlehandedly impact the surrounding weather! Marble Gallie The aquatic insectoid that sweeps microorganisms from the water! Marfil The radially symmetrical swimmer that is big enough to lazily wander through the water without fear! Pinwheel The triangular swimmer that trails behind it a trio of sifting tentacles! Pom The furtive burrower with a nasty pair of... um, with a nasty pair! Saber Ray The ocean dweller that darts from the darkness to slice through prey! Scarlet Spearman The gangly aquatic predator with hook-tipped limbs! Shearbug The insectoid that risks its life every day for the chance to pass on its genes! Treble Trout The ubiquitous swimmer with a trio of whiplike fins! |

Colossus Carm, though the Magnificent Strider, Kentro, Flag Raptor, and Blueback Chaparro are also among my favorites. Again, I've got to say great project. But that doesn't mean you can't have errors. So I've got my eye on you.

Please, keep an eye on me. If something looks awry, point it out to me. If you have questions about details I may overlook (intentionally or otherwise) then bring them up. If you have suggestions for nereids you'd like to see, or even things you come up with, post them for discussion! |

I'm suspected because I love hydrodynamic shapes so Bluebacked Chaparro wins! The 3 radial creatures like Heliunda and Scarlet Spearman are realy exotic Strider would be astonishing to see! I'm imagining an explorer comming out his landed space craft and see that... living eiffel tower! Chirophallus sp. have that peculiar organs in males which is very interesting evolution! |

Funny. While it's certainly a hydrodynamic shape, the blueback chaparro doesn't swim; it flies. |

That's actually something interesting I've noticed, alienboy: there really hasn't been any clear and obvious leader in the poll. Those who have votes don't have any more than anyone else. Oh, and Oceanus, maybe 'aerodynamic' is the word you're looking for.

The Hydrodynamic and aerodynamic have the same shape, is a low drag coeficient shape, both move in a fluid |

My question is what do you call something going through fluid rock. Magmadynamic?

Sighs. Lots of joke cracking going on here. How about molaenamic? Drillamic? Stupid? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Soz babs. I am interested in bad jokes, but ome of them are just ridiculous. Pills are unneccessary. Antidisestablishmentarianism however, is. Was. |
