| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Hey everyone. I was hoping you guys could give me a hand. I'm in the middle of a project on another forum called Avalonia Alone, in which Avalonia didn't break up into New England and Western Europe as it did in our world. I've got a general idea for climate, which you'll find in the thread. But I was hoping that you could give me a hand with some of the animals native to the island. My guess is it'd be dominated by multituberculates, with some creatures that are descendants of the last common ancestor of placentals and marsupials. But I'd live some more specifics. If you'd like to help me out, that'd be awesome. Also, if any of you are good artists, I'd love drawings as well. |

Rockall is ither in one of two spots: A: It is crushed in between Ireland and Nova Scotia, or B: It's where it is in our world. Technically speaking, it's not part of Avalonia, after all. Edited by VulcanTrekkie45, Oct 24 2009, 11:58 AM.

Looks similar to the first except you can see more of the land. Also I don't know much about Avalonia, did it connect with any other landmasses at any time? |

It did once connect with both Europe and North America. However, it's been on its own for the past 120 million years. It is, as I said before, not far from either continent due to its shear size. It's only about 400 miles from Europe and 965 miles from North America at the narrowest point. So, birds might be able to reach it via transatlantic flyways. It's a good map but the geologist-wannabe in me is itching for some topograhy. Any chance for maps regarding mountains and like? |

Consider it done. I'm working on a map right now about where the mountain chains are, regions of hills, and overall place names. Just give me a few minutes, and I'll upload it. |

And forests, don't forget the folia. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Yeah, I checked previous maps. I was completely wrong about the west-coast mountains....I would have sworn those look somewhat like the South American Andes(Subducting) but it's rifting. This doesn't bode well for me being the geo-guy in the role-play! Edited by Iowanic, Nov 7 2009, 03:37 PM.
