| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! http://dresdencodak.com/2009/09/07/the-sleepwalkers/ Would the lack of Permian and Cretaceous extinctions have resulted in such species mutualism? |

I dislike the manga-like style for the characters *comic-artist impression* Early panels seemed to hint a world were Therapsids had continued evolutive radiation, but the "symbiont-like-beings" made everything quite unlikely *scientist impression*

Whine whine whine. You're not allowed to whine about the art style until you read the whole comic. It's mostly about transhumanism and science fiction-meets-magic. agatharights is a huge fan of Dresden Codak, as well as the holiday it inspired- "Dress Like A Time Traveler Day" But yeah. It is mostly meant to be just fun fanfiction. I do totally love the species mutualism, though, I wonder if there'd be an interesting alternate history way to explore that... |

Wow that looks really, really cool. Rather implausible, nay impossible* but still interesting. And with spec you take what you are given. It's a step up from fur bikinis and dinosaurs at least. Damn it, I'm reading My Balls, Yotsuba&! and Emma and now I find a new cartoon. *I've always wanted to say that. |

it's just I don't like a comics style that would be western but that uses same face faults of manga style. I see no innovation in it. So I am a comics drawer, surely I'm not a master artist, but honestly I prefer really innovative styles rather "already seen" ones. However, apart from comics style discussion *that is offtopic*, I think the sci-fi biology is not so feasible, answering to topic title question. But it's just my opinion Sorry if I'm letting the fans down.

That why I doubt I will like Stargate Universe. They use live action, just like The Battleship Potemkin. Can't anyone think of an original style. I am not sure that kind of inter dependency could evolve, especially the animal using another for eyes. The Bait animal looks somewhat plausible though. |

I know. Live action is SO overused. agatharights uses western art style with rather manga-ish faces. SO DEAL. >( I think interdependency is such a weirdly fantastic concept, though. I'd like to see it explored more in biology. |

Yeah. So is CGI, stop motion and animation. Even puppets are overused. It is fantastic, but somewhat unlikely in the extreme cases. It's more energy efficient to have your own eyes than another animal see for you. |

In both senses of the word. The Gorganopsid thing looked really interesting. I wonder what the mandible/hat beast was? |

The thing I don't get is why such interdipendence would have occurred without Permo-Trias and K.T mass extinction. :? Because of larger number of species? If so Cretaceous has been the period with the highest number of species and highest diversity ever. And it has come after dramatic Permo-Trias crisis. I think it's just a funny science fiction, with Stargate citations, Star Wars ambiences, a bit of Fantasy and a scent of Pokèmon too. *lol*
If you use western-style with "manga-ish" features, it's no more "western". Though you could say it's not manga. Paradoxal, ain't it? And the eeriest thing is that since I have posted these posts about comics, I see MangaFox advertising in the forum that I've never seen so far.
