| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Exactly what it says on the tin. I wonder how hard it would be to grow a house? |

I should get out my old biotech RP book. Well, I suppose it depends on what you're growing hte house of. I mean, imagine a sort of tree you could grow that would be large, bulbous...you'd just have to install a door or grow one yourself. You could stimulate it to grow different furnitures and applications via engineering... |

The thing with organic technology is that is seems like it would be more prone to defects or just doing it's own thing. |

Well, the biotech book deals with that too. Like...sure, growing a house is great. But what if your house gets /cancer/. |

That would suck. Better to grow it like coral, with the dead part remaining even if the outside dies. Also I remember listening to a podcast short story about a Farm* that created trees that would burn like rockets to lift them off. I wonder if that would work? *A weird mass of about 6-7 people fused and trying to go to Jupiter. |

Well, we have insects that can use volatile secretions to produce burning and boiling hot liquids and volatile chemicals. Why not expand upon that? |

Beetle Rockets? Sounds like a cool idea if you can get time on the right scale. If not, firing them at bad guys and making them as savage as tiger beetles would be useful. |

"Suddenly, he pulled out the beetle-gun." Somehow, beetles with jet-fuled butts is both intimidating and hilarious. |

Punny joke. But insects would be a damned good weapon if you could control them. I wonder if we could get insects to build our homes. Just program Termites and Wasps to knock something together. |

Why not have an army of clean-up ants? They'd scour the dust off everything...just be careful. They might malfunction and decide to clean YOU up... |

That is a good idea. Just don't have the huge ones from Karl Pilkingtons strange mind. Also I just got the book "In the Courts of the Crimson Kings" where apparently everything the Martians use more advance than a sword is bio. Like rugs that huddle up to your feet. |

You could always have the cat-hat. It grooms and cleans your hair while you wear it. |

Then vomits a hairball into your tea. Lovely. But a live coon skin hat sounds pretty cool. Edited by lamna, Sep 21 2009, 07:08 PM.
