| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Actually, I've heard it explained as something called cold plasma. I'm not really sure what cold plasma is. "The Science of Star Wars" didn't really go in depth about it. But cold plasma was also used to explain the really large space windows and force fields (not the Force. Force fields) |

Cold Plasmas are plasmas that can be kept at safe (room) temperatures and stay a plasma. Hot Plasmas tend to release a lot of heat or need a lot of heat, I don't remember which. As for time travel, Holben, why would you convert a black hole to energy to travel through time? *Warning, advanced scientific jargon a head* To travel through time all one really needs to do is invert one's light cones, (note: a light cone is all possible places in space an object can go in an amount of time, so to invert a light cone you must invert space-time). To do this you must start by altering space-time in a certain way. You could do it with a black hole pretty easily, a rotating black hole, as mathematical models show, already alters near by objects' light cones, giving it complete control over there movement (they can only move in the directing the black hole rotates, like a space-time whirlpool). So, by concentrating enough mass and/or energy together we could travel through time, if only in theory. A second way is by laser. Energy contains mass (the mass of energy is equal to E/Csquared), so energy does alter space-time itself. Now, if one could create enough energy passing through lasers in such a way that it repeats over and over again, theoritcally, one could use such machine to travel through time. *Science lingo done* The only problem is surviving. In both of these a lot of gravity would be generated, while one may beable to create a safe-zone with either, it would be difficult for it to work. And no safe zone you'd be crushed, heck, you'd be turned into spaghetti but not as tastey. So good luck traveling through time. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

For the Star Trek replicators: I think I read somewhere (Yes, I actually read about Star Trek. No, I'm not a Trekkie. Really!!) that the replicator technology is actually part of the teleporters. They teleport a meal, basically, and save it in the memory, so they can materialise it again and again. As for the computer power problem, we're talking about an era where a scientist in his garage sat and make a robot capable of thinking exactly like a human being, using a "positronic brain" (which I guess also uses antimatter as a source of energy). We're talking 24th century here, way ahead of us. Supercomputers that strong are definately possible. How the teleporters work, now, is another story, but I like the concept in the "Enterprise" series, where they are still new technology and are considered unsafe for human transportation. |

But with all teleport methods you need to destroy the original. To everyone else you'd be the same person, same memories, same opinions, same emotions, but it would be a different consciousness. You'd be dead. |

And this is why I think Teleportation will be extremely difficult to use on living beings. Who knows, though? Maybe we'll find another method of teleportation that does not destroy the original, and is just not discovered yet by people. Teleportation will be great for feeding the population, though, using the method I mentioned above, if it can actually work like this. |

No it can't, unless you can get half the mass of the food in antimatter. As for teleportation without destroying the original, quantum teleportation. It doesn't destroy the original, just changes it. |

Quantum teleportation has only beenb tested to a few kilometres down a wire- there could be unforeseen consequences. |

You know what I mean. Technically are eyes seeing nothing but a result of something being where it is, the result being the light reflected. So, yeah, beat that.

Technically we do see light. It's what goes in our eyes and by entering the rods and cones we have vision. We do see light. |
