Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

It happened sooner then I thought: I figured it'd be at least 5 more years till we got one vaguely close to earth. This one is still rather different by our standards, but it's a start....

We have known about this one for quite a while. Sounds a bit heavy, but I expect you could adapt to 2 gees.

Which raises an obvious question, would double your weight because gravity is higher have the same affect as doubling your mass would? I mean, would the extra gravity cause some of the same health problems obesity does (obviously not all, but still).

For example, here I weigh 123 lbs, I think (it might be 124, I don't remember), anyway, it's a healthy weight. But I go to a planet with double gravity, then I weigh 246 lbs. So would the same relative physical stressers (you know, like my bones for example) still happen?

Kind of. Your joints would defiantly have some problems, as would your muscles. In particular your heart, adapted to survive at only 1g, would be unable to pump blood up from your legs.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Are you plausible?

In sci-fi literature an amphibious or aquatic lifestyle is offered as a solution to high-G tolerance. Spending time being buoyant might be a nice relief.

or we could just deal with it. tough it out. grow a spine. stop being wimps. walk it off. shake it out. it's all in your head. grow a pair. stand your ground. be a man.

A chap straight from earth or from lighter gravity would probably have weight problems, but I expect they are nothing that a little tinkering and evolution could handle. The reasons humans have problems when they are to heavy is because we are not built to be that weight, not because it is impossible.

At 2 gee I doubt that blood pooling in your legs would be much of a problem, but if it was you could just wear those special trousers pilots wear to let them cope with high high gees.

Or you could just keep calm and carry on and watch out for Hexapumas.

Well you could have an artificial heart put it made of synthetic plastified muscle. That way it would work just like an organic heart but be strong enough to pump the blood without exploding your chest. You'll have to deal with high blood pressure though.
