| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I think this is the one he meat but the title is changed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgyTVT3dqGY&feature=channel_page I think it's silly how people like to go on about how rational they are. They aren't. |

That was a good video. However, we should learn from these videos rather than just rub them into creationist's faces, because you should be capable of debating them yourselves rather than just calling them idiots or stupid (even though it's true) and telling them that they need to die. I know their idiocy is frustrating at times, but you shouldn't get angry, you should think, think about how you are going to debunk their arguments. Although a YouTube link here and there is OK, you shouldn't just tell them "Take this!" and make no attempt to deconstruct their fallacious arguments yourself. You should only tell them that when you are walking your pet dinochicken right by them, which would not have been possible without evolutionary knowledge. As far as being "condescending", I don't like how some people call other people "condescending" because the targeted person has a better ability to reason. I think it is more of a feeling of envy. But in that video he did not go on and on about how rational he is, he is telling anyone capable of scientific thought should accept evolution. Ignorance is a big problem, and it shouldn't be treated lightly. Of course, everyone is ignorant of some things, but this common ignorance of science, particularly evolution, is just sad. Being open minded does not mean accepting all ideas and opinions as equal and entertaining all possible ideas at once. Taking a hypothesis and attempting to disprove it is also not narrow-minded, in fact it is part of the scientific process. |

Saying someone is wrong is not the same as saying they don't have a right to be wrong. Republicans are retarded and damaging to whatever nation they are from, most secessionists are idiots who think independence somehow makes you free. That does not mean they don't have a right to be morons. |

Creationists deserve to be mocked for their idiocy. They are on a mission to destroying our education based on observable fact in favor of Bronze Age superstitions conceived by people who had limited knowledge about their planet they lived on. I find it offensive how some people are lenient towards this stupidity. It must be put down for good. This guy is doing his part on raising awareness of this ignorance. Ashwinder, thanks for saving me some typing about how open-mindedness dosen't mean unconditionally accepting any random claim. Scientists are not open-minded in that sense. If there is no evidence supporting a claim, it is rejected. For instance, if I had a hypothesis for that life on other planets will be unlike Earth, it would likely not be accepted because I have not seen an alien life-form myself, and speculation does not count, no matter how convincing. Take that one time I debated with this one narrow-minded person over at Tetrapod Zoology about Snaiad. Even though I strongly disagree with him, but hey, he's being a scientist. Like it or not, the purpose of science is to disprove every idea in order to understand reality better. Creationism is not something supported by testable observations, and is refuted by all of the mountainous evidence supporting an old Earth, let alone an old Universe. Now, while I'm not against people who believe in something with no evidence for or against, like gods for example, I'm totally vehement towards anyone who believes in something that is certainly not true, like creationism. I mean sure, they have the free-will to completely ignore what makes their life better and what truly makes of the Universe better than presumptions inherited from ancient Hebrews who in turn took stories from Sumerian mythology; they have every right to be a complete idiot, but that still dosen't make it right, but at least it gives us something to laugh at, I guess. And "think differently"? This sounds very similar to the argument presented by the idiot politician Todd Thompson over at the Oklahoma, who did not want Richard Dawkins to speak in the University of Oklahoma because he accuses his philosophy of being "intolerant of cultural diversity" (psh, whatever) "and diversity of thinking". So yeah, let's all ignore well-founded science and believe that that the world is nothing but a flat disc, that the Sun shifts its position around this disc (id est, it moves around this disk), that diseases are caused by demons, and that the world is only 6,000 years old.
Like whom? As I said, "rational" in their definition means you are capable of scientific and/or logical thought. You're rational, right? So I don't see what the problem is here. |
