| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Jellyhoppers are set up like this: 1. The first ansester is something like a limpet with a mouth on the bottom. 2. This evolves sacs for diveing somewhat like a submerean. 3. This turns it's top hooks so they can be pused for soner. 4. Goes onto land. 5. The land type now moves by inflating and deflating it's sacs to bounce. A flying form could evolve with the old SciFi idea of the liveing gasbag. So what do you think?

I think we need more detail. For example 'Goes to land'. We have no idea what mutation are being used for that to occur. Not to mention 'top hooks' came out of nowhere and I have no idea how they are being used for sonar. |

Our fish went onto land and the hooks where there at the start for holding onto rocks. As for sonar it bangs them on its top to make noise. The skin is like one big eardrum and so.. SONAR! |

Our fish went onto land because they became amphibious to escape predators and find more sources of food. They didn't just "go to land" because they felt like it. Judging by how simple this thing you describe seems, it probably has few, if any, predators and therefore has no need to go onto land. Not unless the oceans were evaporating or something, but I doubt that considering its basically just a watery sack of jelly. I do like the idea though, don't get me wrong. It just needs a little more thought behind it. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Lets just put their evolution aside for now, it's honestly not that important anyways. Tell us more about the jellyhoppers. So far all you've told us is a basic description and their method of movement. What do they eat? Are they herbivores? Predators? Omnivores? Do the photosynthesize? Chemosynthesize? How do they reproduce? In what ways have different species of them become specialized to their environment (you mentioned possible flying ones). Like you said, you have a base; build on it. Take that organism and put it in a new environment and hit fast forward on your mental evolution button. Tell us about its predators/prey. How does it fend them off/catch them? How does it eat in general? By the way I don't actually expect you to answer all these questions, I'm just trying to get you to start thinking. I mean no offense, but you seem kind of new to the whole exobiology/designing aliens thing. I'm just trying to help. |

I am new. This is my first idea and I just joined the comunity today. Also jellyhoppers are not the whole ecosystom but just the equivelent of a first fish on land. The idea is free and if you have an idea on jellyhoppers just post it here. |

I think he's trying to say: Tell us the whole ecosystem. Like the concept, but as I've learned, it's often best to just tell about the creatures and keep the evolutionary history to yourself. |

These sound like a very interesting idea but as has been said we need more info about the enviroments(including ecosystems) and the creatures them selves along with what ever else you can give us. |

I drew a picture of a jellyhopper I had thought up, but my scanner is acting up so the result didn't come out too well. I'll have to try it with a different scanner. |

Eh, it's not too good of a picture, I kind of rushed it. I'll work on a better one later. |
