Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

You know the alien. That face hugging, acid dripping, stomach bursting, cantankerous creature of HR Giger's fantastic imagination. We're talking about Ellen Ripley's nemesis and Ridley Scott's meal ticket.

Terrifying and slightly resembling your boss, she has made an indelible impression on movie-goers for 30 years. Unfortunately that impression has been watered down as this ferocious beast of deep space has never been explaned. For this we want how it works. Is the facehugger, chestbuster, monster a working idea? Could it evolve? What good is it? So here is where to post ANYTHING that has to do with this space monster.

Are you plausible?

I wasn't implying the fully grown alien was that different in size, just that it would start out smaller.

But the idea of mini-aliens is interesting. Piranha aliens!

Well some how the xenomorphs take on some characteristics of their host like a big jerk, so their could be some really freaky ones created. Lets pray that humanity can turn out enough spades and bats to beat the tiny menace.

Perhaps as well as the nano humans could combat them with neutron bombs or other atomic weapons. It is the only way to be sure after all.

He mean the chestbursters escape the host at a smaller than normal size, so that the chestburster could live in a smaller host.

Born premature? Won't that affect it? I mean they grow in things for a reason.

There may be some side effects, but size doesn't necessarily have to be one of them. Maybe they're not quite as strong, or they're not as intelligent?

I don't think the face huggers would be able to attach to a penguin, but a king or emperor might be able sustain a chest burster.
Oh and YellowdrakeX. Get one of these.

Hmm, maybe I will move the invasion forward 10 years so nanotech is not so unbelievable. 2020 the bug arrive, 2030 the world stabilizes and nanoweapons are developed 2040 major reconquest and then in the 2100s the real story about the tensions between the great powers of United Commonwealth, Greater East Asian Empire, Republic of Columbia and the Kingdom of Europa, space exploration, colonialism, conquest and search for who infected earth. Humans have pretty good street cred given they survived Xenomorphs.

Would not work. For an animal to be a viable host it needs to have a large enougth body cavity and the face hugger must be able to insert it's alien wing wang into it.

Snakes would probably work, but be easier to kill than normal ones and it would only work on the very largest snakes.
