| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. You know the alien. That face hugging, acid dripping, stomach bursting, cantankerous creature of HR Giger's fantastic imagination. We're talking about Ellen Ripley's nemesis and Ridley Scott's meal ticket. Terrifying and slightly resembling your boss, she has made an indelible impression on movie-goers for 30 years. Unfortunately that impression has been watered down as this ferocious beast of deep space has never been explaned. For this we want how it works. Is the facehugger, chestbuster, monster a working idea? Could it evolve? What good is it? So here is where to post ANYTHING that has to do with this space monster. |

I have the solution to face hugger attacks then. Headbutt something. In fact that is the solution to many of life's problems. Also strangling is not going to work of dolphins very well. It's going to be even less effective with sharks. I was under the impression that the face huggers had a very short lifespan, or is that just after they lay the egg? Also I'm thinking that after about 10 years (so 2020) the survivors develop nanotechnology to combat the Lóng. It's not magical grey goo but it slowly eats the beasts alive. Not great for fighting drones or queens but good for chemical warfare. Is that too much of an ass pull? |

Nanobots could happen but it depends on resources equipment and how many smart people survived. And nanotech would help kill the adults in my opinion though it is suiside for those robots. Also eventually who ever developes the best Nanobots would be able to conquer every where else still populated. |

I was wouldering about that myself? I guess the acid blood would kill the host but still with a dead host and a bitten-off wang how are they make the chestbuster? |

Well two of the worlds major technological powers survive, Japan and Britain and between 450 and 500 million people survive along with most large islands and several peninsulas. I intend for the nanoweapons to be realistic. Sure they will kill an adult, but in several hours if you inject the nanoweapons or days if sprayed on. Good old fashioned fast moving brass will be more useful in many cases. And you assume that people would try to conquer each other. I mean the US has the most powerful navy and best atomic weapons at the moment. But it's not conquered anyone since the early 1900's. Apparently the devil will throttle the chap until he is knocked out and then makes love to his face. |

I think the drones would subdue an amphibious animal (Think Giant Japanese Salamander) first, then the amphibious drone would swim down stream, into the ocean, where it would infect any large sea animal. Then, mass chaos ensues. I'd like to see Coelacanth Xenomorph. |

And that's going to stop an alien race that could "rape" us, spawning more of them?

Well, if a medium-sized dog has enough room the develop one, I'd think one of those would. |

I don't know, they seem more small dog sized an a bit flattened. Maybe they would have room. |

I think that since a chestburster grows very quickly in size, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for it to start out smaller and grow a little bit more to accommodate. |

Great, now we have tiny ones too. As if the huge ones were not bad enougth. We are going to need the nanostuff then. I wonder how small an alien you could get if your injected the egg artificiality? |
