Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

You know the alien. That face hugging, acid dripping, stomach bursting, cantankerous creature of HR Giger's fantastic imagination. We're talking about Ellen Ripley's nemesis and Ridley Scott's meal ticket.

Terrifying and slightly resembling your boss, she has made an indelible impression on movie-goers for 30 years. Unfortunately that impression has been watered down as this ferocious beast of deep space has never been explaned. For this we want how it works. Is the facehugger, chestbuster, monster a working idea? Could it evolve? What good is it? So here is where to post ANYTHING that has to do with this space monster.

Don't worry a responsible member of staff will sort me out.

Anyway, what would happen in the long run if these blighters got loose on an inhabited world like earth?

On earth, they'd be eradicated once they're known by the ruling superpower.
On a planet inhabited with a sentient species like us, some possibilities:
-Inhabitants got wiped
-Inhabitants wipe out the Xenomorphs
-Inhabitants capture some Xenomorphs and reverse genetic engineer them to either combat the Xenos or to wage war on themselves
-Inhabitants praise the Xenomorphs as macabre gods and go like no. 1
-Inhabitants use the Xenomorphs as a means of entertainment (prolly what the Predator did)
-Inhabitants readily merge with the Xenomorphs and become part of Xenomorph variation (maybe early facehugger did this?)
-Inhabitants treat Xenomorphs as parasites and don't mind much
-Somehow, inhabitants and Xenomorphs don't interact at all (maybe on crystal-based inhabitants? those who have advanced cloaking tech? dunno.)

I meant if people were unable to control then and they just went mental on the biosphere? Would all the megafauna perish, then the Xenomorphs?

Anyway, what would happen in the long run if these blighters got loose on an inhabited world like earth?
Supersized mass extinction as they kill and eat evrything then if there is a intelangent race at a good level of tec they would use a biowepon thet kills aliens to wipe them out. Also I never understood this bit; on a spacecraft the asid blood would melt throught the hull if they simply took out a gun and shot it. However on a planet why not shoot all the monsters and nalpalm the hive?

That was GOING to be the plot of Aliens 4 before they decided to make it about cloning instead. >(

Having zombie apocalypse type film about them would be bad ass.

Just a few people left in fortified towns and farms. And then the aliens learn how to burrow and it is game over.

Actually, the plot of the AvP RP that I was in revolved around this. Mind you, it was about a human-colonized moon instead, but it basically came down to "Kill/blow up everything."

Well it would be good to set it on another world. I imagine the isolated cities trading with fortified mines and farms by blimp to save fuel. Blimps with autocannons on them.

Since no form of alien I have heard of can fly why bother with arming the blimps. Of corce a crash would be VERY bad.

Why don't we just use concentrated satellite particle beams,to flush them out, then robotic ion cannons which are solar-powered to mince them?
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.
