Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Following a discussion on General Spec I've decided to post a topic on an Exobiology project called Planet Furaha. Here's a link:
Planet Furaha
To me it seems more like an alternative Earth, but what really stands out about it is it's stunning art. It's worth a look at.

Are you plausible?

I've always loved this site and looked up to it both in subject matter and artisitic quality.
Take a look at my exobiology subforum of the planet Nereus!

Awesome art. . .Shame he doesn't go into more detail about the way the life-forms are all related. It's sort of like Darwin IV in that way (don't get me wrong, I love Expedition, it just could have been a lot thicker.)

Valhalla--Take Three!
The Big One

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

Well, what can I say? As the author of the Furaha site, I can only say 'thank you' for attracting attention to Furaha!

There is, in fact, a lot more material about Furaha, including some 50 paintings in all, and rather a lot of text. but it should really be in a book, and that's why not everything is on the site. Instead I discuss some of the 'why' and 'how' in the accompanying blog.

I mean no offense, Sigmund, but have you considered updating your site's navigation? I find that it's difficult to find what I'm looking for. Though I do regularly check your blog, that's pretty easy to find. It's pretty sad that Gerolf Steiner died; I wasn't too familiar with his works, but I knew his legacy quite well. He's right up there next to Carl Sagan on the list of influential people in the field of speculative biology.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Hi Parasky,

Actually, I have. I even tried outsourcing it as I haven't much time to spend on the entire Furaha business. I am currently learning ZBrush, and once I have enough expertise with that to illustrate the long-postponed 'flying with...'section, I intend to completely re-arrange the pages. Unless something intervenes, which it commonly does...

I like your diagrams on how things move though, very interesting. And helpful for when I'm trying to draw something with awkward leg arrangements.

Something strange happened, and I wonder if that is what you meant. If you open my site in Firefox, the home page displays a column of icons on the left hand side. If you click on them, you are taken to a new page, which is what is supposed to happen. But I now found that the left-hand column disappears if you go to a new page. Is that what you meant?

If so, it is a new problem, as I have been using Firefox for a long time without such problems. I did update it recently. I did not see that before, as I do not visit al separate pages of my site that often.
