| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I don't think we are. From what little I know/remember about the boring age (Between the Upper Palaeolithic and 1714 A.D.) the Cro-Magnon (or at least the Primitive Britons) were absorbed and replaced by the Celts and their ancestors, who were also mostly replaced and absorbed themselves. If you have Western European ancestor there might be some Cro-Magnon in you, but not a lot. The attractiveness might not have been all that much of a problem. Remember Rule 36? |

The Golden Ratio is something in Geometry, but also appears in everything else from math, art, music, to even how human faces look. If a human face matches the Golden Ratio then it is considered to have perfect proportions. |

I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong "I was born in the dark. I went out into the light, and your Majesty, it is my displeasure to inform you that I have returned to the dark. I envision a Seoul of towering buildings filled with Western establishments that will place herself back above the Japanese barbarians. Great things lie ahead for the Kingdom, great things. We must take action, your Majesty, without hesitation, to further modernize this still ancient kingdom."-Min Young-ik to Empress Myeongseong | |

I also get the human family tree.
Actually this is pretty darn cool. First, through all those awesome methods most of us here probably already know they reconstructed a ton of Neanderthal faces and from that decided on their 'norms' like proportions and so forth. Next they used this to apply some pretty realistic looking make-up to some one. Next, for a control they took another guy and just made him look as butt-fugly as possible. Think Ferengi-klingon with out the skull-cap. Next they had them both walk around a city in England and later New York City. After a while they started to realize something: People were disgusted by the control, while they hapily accepted the Neanderthal. He was going to win a beauty contest, but there was something weird there, at least one person acted like he was Brad Pitt. So, I imagine they could have easily have found mates. Probably the same way we get attracted to 'exotic' people. An early version of this experiment (without the control) was shown on a documentary about Neanderthals. |

Now THAT'S interesting. And I can see the point about being attracted to exotic people (I'm kind of attracted to the Oriental people myself ). So if it was possible for neanderthals to breed with us, then it probably happened. However, it's all up to genetics. |

You know what's really odd? Most caucasian men, as far as I can tell, are attracted to Asian women. I really have no idea why. I know we are somehow subconsciously attracted to people with a different immune system then ours, I wonder if this is somehow the same thing? An instinct to create a stronger offspring through genetic diversity. I'm interested in fair-skin women, too (you know, part black and part white). I guess this kind of blows out the whole idea we find the 'norm' the most sexually attractive. |

The only reason is because Asian women could retain teenage features into their 40's. They also are a lot less annoying than most white women. |

It is queer how it's mostly Oriental women if we are just after something exotic. I suspect there is not the same draw to Africans, Indians or Arabs, so it is probably something about them specifically. I suspect among white men, the races preferred by the majority would be white, Oriental and mixed race. By Mixed race I mean like the token black people in adverts. Black enough to count but not enougth to scare. As for them being less annoying? Well that probably because you don't interact with them as much. I'm sure there are just as many greedy, whiny bitches in Peking as there are in New York. Perhaps it is cultural rather than biological. Apart from the UK to some extent, the big 4 English speaking nations have had "interesting" histories with the Chinese and Japanese. Yellow Peril and the failure of the racial equality at the Treaty of Versailles. That might have played a role. And I had heard the Neanderthal costume was discredited, but that might have just been that people would not notice how they were not human. |

I suppose that makes since. But we still do display some Neanderthal behaviors (like funerals). Cultural, huh? Well, back during the Korean War there was a comic strip about an Asian woman's hot adventures, obviously nothing to explicit, but enough to where most adults could catch the joke. I don't know of any other examples. So, maybe. |

No Asian women are much less annoying, out of all the Asian girls I have met (and that would be a good amount) only one has been about half as annoying as most white girls. Around here every time a man is sent to China or Korea for business he will always come back with a young, quiet Asian woman. |

Actually I'm fairly sure Neanderthal burials were just disposing of waste in a efficient manor. I know the idea they were buried with flowers is incorrect. That was show to just be random pollen that blew in. I still doubt that. Despite my interest in Japan and China the only Oriental people I know are my dentist and a Manchu bloke from China who used to practice his English on me. And only my dentist is a woman, who I don't think is any less pleasant than my previous white male dentist. Easier on the eye though. |
