| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Transhuman

First of all, what makes us human is an opinion, not anything verfiable (I beleive it to be a soul, and yet, it scientifically doesn't exist), secondly, assuming it's a movie, it's a movie. If not, then it's obviously still a work of fiction and should be treated like it. We are already considering replacing the Hippocampus. No one considers this bad, since all this will do is help people with memory problems (like alzheimers), this will be like that. Fix emotional problems. We also are already using surgeries to influence how people feel. It's a treatment for depression to surgically insert an electrode into a human brain, and use that to help cause them to be happier, to cure anhedionia, and fix severe depression. Frankly, this has nothing to do with disrespect to the human condition. It has everything to do with helping to prevent human suffering. Frankly, I don't agree with ending emotions either, but it's really the only way to create a truley peaceful society. |

It's a film where after World War Three to stop World War Four people are drugged to remove emotion. Anyone who refuses dies. Christian Bale goes of his drugs, and discovers the Nation/City's Big Brother type figure died years ago and the people really running the show don't take the drugs either. It's a pretty cool film. The logic behind it is a bit weird, if "they" have the power to make almost everyone take the drug, then doesn't that mean they won? Who would they fight in the fourth war? I agree with you about that, replacing and upgrading parts in people could be very useful. Frankly I would Love to get rid of sleep. Spending half your life unconscious is stupid. It would vastly increase subjective lifespans. |

but i enjoy sleeping... gives me dreams in which i can go on adventures and do certain very violent things that if i wasn't allowed to play out in my dreams i would likely take out on real people. i think sleep often acts as a sort of natural therapy and allows your mind to figure out certain things that when awake you are too busy to deal with. as for the ''what if people flipping out and killing everything in sight'' situation, i'd rather not get rid of that either, i'd actually like that because then humans as a whole would likely be stronger to deal with taking those people down, also doing so would be fun. also, i hate the idea of surgically making people happier, that's what therapy, illegal drugs, and orgasms are for. also replacing the hippocampus seems interesting but i would rather have us figure out how to do ad-ons for more memory, to my understanding it's been proven that marijuana prevents alzheimers... |

I don't have dreams, or at least I don't remember them. Besides look how fast entertainment is advancing. 30 years ago we had Pong. Look at gaming now, I can put down the American revolution, destroy the soviets and allies with a psychic school girl, fight people with and against from across the world in war simulators, create aliens and build and manage zoos. And those are just the games I have. Imagine what we will have in the next 30 years. It will be better than being effectively dead that is for sure. Venting anger is unhealthy, it makes you associate being anger with being aggressive. Really? You like the idea of coming home and finding the people you live with massacre by someone close to you, and then you have to kill him/her or die yourself. That's a little fucked up mate. And how do you think orgasms and drugs work? It's all in your head, this is just a more direct method. |

This gives me an idea for another thread, but as for this one I'm going to have to ask that we get back on topic. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself
