Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Here is a nice test I found to see if you can decifer an alien message. In order to find out if you are a member of the elite 0.0001 percent of the human population you most decode 4 of the 5 following "alien" messages. I have hope! So go forth and do so :) !!!!!

Message 1: You are working with a team of scientists who look into the sky to see a flying saucer blinking a light with a sequence of short duration (0) and long duration (1) flashes. what could the following pattern signify?

01101010001010001010001000001010000010001010...

Message 2: A small gray alien hands you a card with the folowing sequence: 2 71 828 1828 45904 523536 0287471 35266249 775724709 . . .

If your team cannot tell him the significance of this sequence within two hours, the alien will begin examining you with various cold, metalic instruments.

Message 3:

Aliens are waiting for humanity to replace the following question mark with the next value before they consider us worthy for further comunication:

77 49 36 18 ?

Message 4: A message from Alpha Centuri is as follows:

14 15 92 65 35 89 79 32 38 46 26 43 38 . . .

The President is offering a million dollars for anyone who can solve this code.

Message 5: the following sequence is brodcasting using long (1) and short (0) beeps. Solve it!

0 01 0110 01101001 0110100110010110 . . .

The only message I did not solve was message 2 if that helps!

With all due respect to the great Clifford Pickover

Are you plausible?

These are from his Science of Aliens book, isn't it? I won't cheat and ruin it for everyone else.
Take a look at my exobiology subforum of the planet Nereus!

Yes, but I give Clifford Pickover full credit. Can anyone solve it without cheating?

The correct answer for most is either welcoming our conquers or atomic tilting at windmills.

For 2 you use your primitive human body to overpower the weak aliens and hover menacingly over Moscow, Washington DC or Astana and start demanding stuff.

Does anyone else have a lying advert about tribal people on this page. It is claiming no tribe pollutes, have wars or poverty.

It's either some hippy from New Francisco off his head on loopy juice who is playing with a transmitter, or a declaration of war from the Lemming-men.

I doubt aliens would try to communicate like this. If anything, aliens would try and communicate through basic sciences that all civilizations, even the ignorant ones like ours, would have figured out. Like that one episode of Stargate SG-1 about the Four Races.

So, models of atoms and molecules, perhaps solar systems and galaxies, maybe an image representing their anatomy (why not? That's what we've tried in the past) and so on. Or, if they are more patient, maybe analyzing our radio transmissions, translate them with time, and send them back to us editted to show their intention.

Image that, Lucy from I Love Lucy telling us "We're coming, Carbon Bags of Dirty Water".

I think it is very likely! Math is universal and understood by everyone exept creationists! If anything, aliens will communicate similar to the messages I have given. is anyone actually going to solve this?!

Math is universal but the digits themselves are not. I can't read many civilizations mathematical systems, and if they come from another planet, it would impossible.

Then there is the ones with beeping and such. Also, not that plausible. First of all 1's and 0's can be deciphered until the cows come home and you can still get the wrong answer.

If anything, an alien race would use something that can't be misunderstood.

Message 1: Literal: We Curl before your Hereditary Tyrant. These aliens curl up to show respect when greeting, rather like a bow, so means "We bow before your king" The message is a lot like passing honours when two ships come close.

Message 2: The Alien is on the run from the law for engaging in bestiality, and is asking for help. Arrest him and make sure all his "close encounters" were consensual and not space date rape. If you want to you can give him asylum if he is innocent.

Message 3: re: Stop playing number games. Admiral Perry didn't do this when he opened Japan you elitist bastards. Send in English and Welsh.

Message 4: Message reads "You're my best mate you are" It is then followed by gibberish. Most likely an intoxicated fellow.
Which president is paying me, and what kind of dollars.

Message 5: Message reads "Oh (name) the lasers! The lasers!" The name is probably a God of some kind, though it might be a ordinary name. Possibly an war the poor fellow got caught up in.
