Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Let's just say that dinosaurs survived and an intelligent species such as dinosapiens or maybe humans (although we probably wouldn't of evolved) domesticated them. What would they look like, I have an idea of a Dromeosaur which takes the place of dogs, selectively breed so they are less aggressive, also their sickle claw was lost in the process. Discuss other possible creatures.

Have any of you guys read Robert Mash's hilarious "How to Keep Dinosaurs"?

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

I guess domesticated maniraptors would have all sorts of weird plumage as in several chicken and canary breeds.

Obviously ceratopsians would serve several functions, such as meat, egg, and even quill production ! Hmm I have the feeling to draw a dinosaur farm LOL

Ceratopsians could perhaps become fatter and fatter, while hadrosaurs could perhaps be used either as horses or as war elephants, given how large Maastrichian species were. Perhaps large pterosaurs could be used as steeds; to a bird like ddinosauroid, sitting on the back of a pterosaur would perhaps be fairly easier than for a human being

So, we can even think of a tyrannosaur being used like a war beast?

Go in there for some odd stuff that could make you puke, and ask for some free sketches. :)

Maybe even some small ornithopods could be used as steeds ! Imagine what Titanosaurs could do as well, young could be used for meat, while the adults could be quite a workforce !

As for tyrannosaurs, well, depends on whereas people can mount lions and bears or not

War dinosaurs sound pretty unlikely to me. Only Dog, Elephants and Horses and cetaceans are used or were using in war extensively. All are intelligent or trainable. Even the smartest dinosaurs were not very intelligent and could probably not be trained to do much. There have been few war oxs and no war rhinos or large powerful hunters.

Yeah, I don't think a tyrannosaur is the best mount :D New clades would evolve aswell serving as perfect beasts of burden, Troodonts, large flightless birds, etc ! So the possibilites are rather infinite. Hell I could imagine a large flightless enatiornithe serving as the perfect mount, docile, fast, herbivorous, intelligent, and capable of grasping objects !

Enantiornithes had hands that are exactly identical to those of modern birds, so I don't see why it would have hands. An ornithomimid would have hands, but probably they wouldn't be able to grasp

Yeah, I imagine dinosaurs could be used in war, after all, we've used insects.

Imagine a giganotosaurus coming at you. Even if it hadn't been taught to fight, just running at you would give them a psychological advantage and probably coud do enough damage by just running.

No, confuciosornids weren't enantiorntihes; they were WAY more primitive than that
