| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. http://www.popsci.com/military-aviation-amp-space/article/2009-06/construction-begins-spaceport-america/?cmpid=PSCenews061809 The world's first spaceport is being built in New Mexico and will serve as a base for companies that do commercial space flight (the only one of which is currently Virgin Galactic). |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Looks interesting, but what is wrong with building one in Scotland ay? Americans are starting to figure out that we just made the monster up entirely, and the basted Branson goes dicking about in America. Why New Mexico of all places? It's famous for balloon crashes. |

It's also famous for being flat, weather less, and empty. If something crashes there or there's some kind of accident, it will be far away from a major population center or ecosystem. |

And it is always raining in the UK. We have deserts perfect for putting useless pieces of junk in space. |

I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong "I was born in the dark. I went out into the light, and your Majesty, it is my displeasure to inform you that I have returned to the dark. I envision a Seoul of towering buildings filled with Western establishments that will place herself back above the Japanese barbarians. Great things lie ahead for the Kingdom, great things. We must take action, your Majesty, without hesitation, to further modernize this still ancient kingdom."-Min Young-ik to Empress Myeongseong | |

So does Kenya and Uganda. People will go anywhere for a chance to use this, makes sense to put it somewhere where it will be cheaper and improve the local economy more. |

I wouldn't say that the UK gets the Large Hadron Collider. The UK is kind of an island while Europe is a continent. |

It is a European Island. I'm just frustrated because of Britain's pathetic history in space flight. Now a private sector company builds a space port in the USA. |

Does the UK have a space program? Or does the European Space Agency control all space-related activities in Europe? I think it would be better if the world just had a single space agency; Earth may be fractured between civilizations but the universe belongs to all of us. Besides it's easier to make breakthroughs when all the scientific minds in the space scene are all coordinated and in direct communication without having to deal with governments getting in the way. And it is private industry that's making the spaceport. It won't be long before word of that gets around and other private industries begin investing in spaceports and commercial space flight. Maybe I'll live to see the space age really begin after all. |

We have British National Space Centre, which operates some satellite. We also launched Prospero X-3 in 1971 and that is it. Britain also takes part in ESA, though with a much smaller contribution than you would expect from one of Europe's big three. In Europe most nations have their own space agency and also work with ESA (nothing to do with the EU by the way). It is rather inefficient. |

The ESA needs way more funding if they want to accomplish anything. Just 5 billion american dollars a year, that's less than a third of what NASA gets. But it is way better than the Russian Federal Space Agency, and their pathetic 2 billion dollars a year. You know what now I am looking at other countries space budget and the ESA is looking a lot better, China only has a 500 million dollar budget. |

China's seems to mostly to be the 21st centuries equivalent of 19th century battleships. Very impressive but of little actual use. ESA is very much centred around Science, and probably won't start mucking about with people for many years to come, same with JAXA. Russia is basically just ferrying billionaires but it will be taking a much more important role in ferrying people to the ISS after NASA retires the Shuttles, and might be able to carry out some scientific missions. Anyway I can't wait to see photos of the Apollo landing sites taken by the LRO. The KAGUYA images are stunning and NASA's should be even better. Of course these won't shut up Moon hoaxes, who would not believe it if they went there. |

Russia, if you must know, is planning its own spaceplane and moon landing, as well as a Mars sample return mission. Also, there are companies besides Virgin Galactic that are pursuing civilian space flight. The best-known of these is called XCOR, and their vehicle is called the Lynx. |

Really? Nice one Roscosmos. But still they are only planning these things, and Russia's last truly successfully mission to explore the solar system was Vega 2 in 1985, with the last attempt in 1996. |
