| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Just for the Primeval fans which care about more than just discussing the plausibility of the future creature designs, the series 4 trailer has been revealed :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvie0-VKVuc It contains a Todd-Marshall-like Spinosaurus and the most entelodont-like Kaprosuchus I´ve ever seen. I still really love it and wondered whether it could have been possible for any group of Crocodylomorphs (not necessarily a relative of Kaprosuchus itself) to evolve into something which actually looks like that. Some Notosuchians have mammal-like dentition, so maybe they could have grown such recurved tusks if surviving beyond the Cretaceous. Though those monstrous tusks on its CHEEKS would really be a challenge... |

I hope they finally show the Future Bird from the book Shadow of the Jaguar! I also had my own ideas for it: The gang travels to the Congo and encounters a Diplodcus, which the locals believe is the legendary Mokele-Mbembe An anomaly opens in outer space, letting in the K-T asteroid. The gang has to send it back through to keep history on track and save humanity. A Megalodon shark shows up at a major tourist beach, and our heros are called in to get rid of it. A future sapient species (crow or cephalopod descendant?) comes through an anomaly. It turns out that they have something to do with the origin of the Future Predators. WoW that spinosaurus is pretty awesome!! And I see that we have the dracorex and raptors again. Primeval, in the first series had no dinosaurs but the number of dinosaurs in the series is growing, strangely I hope they have the T-Rex as promised in series5.. the Baba Yaga |

9 Pages - gawd I am late to this party! Primeval is a fun show. Time frames are in the millions or hundreds of million years so evolution and mutations have a very wide working parameter. Very nice topic! Bats are insect and fruit eaters mostly. Over time they may start to prey on small rodents and such. Over large amounts of time they might move up the food chain to even larger prey. But their competition will also be moving up the food chain. They will have predators eating them as well. They would not cause human extinction - we would not let that happen. Something else had to bring our downfall. A top predator needs vision - they would not be blind. Bats use echolocation by emitting sounds. As depicted in the series the predators can 'see' but do not emit sound. rubbish. Cool monster design but not very likely. Also, what is their prey? I liked the reptile-mandrill from A Sound Of Thunder better. The CGI was bad but the concept was interesting. ![]() Image from http://www.sfstation.com/a-sound-of-thunder-a1449 All the rest of the depictions strike me as pure fantasy(But haven't see the insect one yet). The gremlin was cute! on a side note: The Kothoga from The Relic was pretty interesting ![]() as well as Deep Rising's Cephlapod ![]() Who knows what is in the ocean depths |

The FP returns, inevitably. ![]() I hope my favourites, the megopterans, are back! The only creatures, aside from humans and gogronopsids, who can kill an FP. |

That's not strictly true, Holb... I may be more of a Dave man, but you can't deny, Harry Hill's TV Burp is a pretty good show. Perhaps they could include some Welsh myths? For example, they could have two dragon-like creatures fighting at Dinas Emrys in the Middle Ages... or maybe an Afanc in a lake. Something like that. |
