Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Appearently, the eurasian sparrows that got into North America are causing trouble to endemic songbirds. Thus, if you're american and if you'd like to help the native species from your continent you may kill as many house sparrows as you like.

Starlings are little bastards, too.

Well the fact that they were brought over here isn't their fault, as a result they shouldn't be killed fir that. Eventually life will find a way a competition between them will be settled, plus a lot more ecology has been tampered with, if were going around killing animals that mess with natural ecology, humans should be the first to go ;)

If you live in the UK don't kill them. They are in some trouble here.

House sparrows and starlings. Becoming rare. Ladies and gentlemen, we as a planet are fucked.

Really, UK passerines are dying out? AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!! (I personaly hate Passeriformes)

@Venatosaurus: True, but if people killed off introduced cats on islands then why can't people in North America wipe out house sparrows? Their sacrifice would be for "a greater good" after all

I have a good plan to wipe them out. They do so well because of cities and agriculture. Wait till summer and then fire 90% the whole worlds nuclear arsenal at the Americas. Major cities first.

Then, what is left of the grain belt and other major agricultural regions you fire bomb. Gas areas where sparrows nest. Use the remaining 10% of nukes to keep radiation levels topped up. That should reduce their numbers to a manageable level.

Though that might cause some "little" problems to american humans and native wildlife. Whatever, the horrible reign of passerines would end, and after we would just have to somwhow wipe out rodents

Please, the greater good has been lost since we lit our first fire.

That is a bit of a mean reason to wish destruction on something, but then again it is the one reason Europeans hate the US, and weird Americans hate Canada.

Problems? Have you SEEN the crap we eat? Honestly, if we can survive the stuff we cram in are arteries, and our digestive systems haven't blown up yet, we got a shot.

Besides, I'd rather deal with nuclear radiation then Canadians;)

I don't know, I just have a passion for clades that are reduced to "living fossils". Probably I'm being too extreme.

Now's the time to invest in Martian land. Once Earth is overpopulated and polluted there is going to be a big demand for food and clean water, and Mars shall provide.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming
