Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

the good news is, that in my opinion because of its dark nature and because its outside the mainstream animation industry 9 will probably not get ripped off

Well, technically its the movie Help! I'm A Fish (also known in US as A Fish Tale), so its the real deal this timee, but I find the awefull CGI cover remarkably stupid

This is pathetic. They even ripped off one of my favorites that you've probably never heard of. Bedknobs and Broomsticks = Animal soccer game.

So THAT's what Animal Soccer World was supposed to be a ripoff of? I thought it was the only original work in the series! On a related note, did you notice the way the raccoon hops like a kangaroo? And don't even get me started on the "dinosaurs" in Dinosaur Adventure!

Its funny to see a "macropumorphic" rather than an anthropomorphic animal for a change

Oh so YOU'RE the one who made that TV tropes edit! Also, Sword of Camelot is more likely a ripoff of Disney's The Sword in The Stone, since Quest for Camelot isn't very well-known or popular.

What about TV "mockbusters" I mean, After Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we got a slew of other cartoons on that theme like Street Sharks and Extreme Dinosaurs. Yu-Gi-Oh!, a huge hit both in the US and Japan, begat the barely distinguishable ripoff Duel Masters, or, as the kids at my middle school called it, "Drool Masters." And let's not even get STARTED on Pokemon and Digimon.

Yea, lets not get started with Pokemon and Digimon. I grew up watching that, and I probably couldn't control myself if you started insulting it. Well, not really, but still; I went and bought Pokemon Red and Blue the day they came out back in '98. I was only six years old and I went out and bought the game the day it came out; that's got to say something about its popularity.

I think he was refering to all the rip-offs of Pokemon and Digimon. Together, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Digimon have three very different takes on the same concept.

Pokemon started as a video game about captuing living beings ala Satoshi Tajiri's childhood passtime of catching bugs. He threw in the aspect of trading bugs and the occasional bug v.s. bug fight and expanded on those. The card game was a naturall progression on the video games, as well as a way for GameFreak to take advantage of one of the things Nintendo used to do. Card games. The other, the nintendo love hotels, made it into the games as the 'day care'.

Yu-Gi-Oh start as a manga and barely had any card games in it, up until a certain point. But when it got made into an anime, it found out that the card games and magic were the selling points, and it immediately got a trading card game.

Next is Digimon, which is built around the concept of digital monsters, and the ability to travel between these two worlds. It kinda took the virtual reality helmet idea and went "OH FUCK IT ACTUALLY IS REAL. OH GOD MY HAND IS ACTUALLY ON FIRE!". So yeah, Digimon probably involved heavy does of opiates.

Now for the rip offs.

Duel Monsters: I need not say more.

Countless Bootlegs: I need not say more.

Bakuman: Seriously. It rips off all three. It makes the monsters real, like Pokemon. It uses special cards, like Yu-Gi-Oh, and the monster's dimension is linked to the player's and they depend on one another like Digimon. Not to mention the monsters are ball shaped and have to be thrown in order for them to fight(Like they took Pokeballs and bastardized them.) Then there's the fact the monsters can talk in this ball form, like the cards do with the main characters of Yu-Gi-Oh. Oh, and the fights take place in an alternate dimension, like Digimon used to.

I fukken swear the nerve of some people.

CONCLUSION: We need to stream some Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann over SpecStream.

You misspelled the rip-off (Bakugan). And I agree completely, it's CRAP. I didn't even know it was a rip-off, which makes it worse. What's even worse is that it SOMEHOW managed to get four seasons in Canada, because it somehow got really high ratings here  . That show shouldn't have even got off the ground (which is what happened in Japan  ). Evidently, we have little taste when it comes to anime. And the nerve of the people who made Bakugan is surprising, not only because it's a complete rip-off of a whole bunch of manga (which I only now just realized), but because they came up with it in the first place.

I say this because it was glaringly obvious that the creators went "Okay, what's popular?" "Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Digimon." "Good! Mash those together and sell it to our populace. If it soars here, then we can ship it off to the U.S. and Canada." "YES SIR."

Frankly , I'm waiting for a rip off of ponies to show up.

It'll come soon. Copiers of all stripes will jump on anything and everything. The only security we have in all of this is that the rip-offs are almost always crappy (unless they're parodies, which are entirely different, because they generally work in reverse to this. Go Weird Al!).

Like Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann. It's a parody of Evangaileon. (However you spell it) I can't bring myself to watch it, but Gurren Lagann is so manly it made me GAR for Kamina.

... what? If I knew more about anime, I'd probably understand this.
