| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Around the world there are people that claim to be able to control electricity. Is this possible? |

I don't think so, but I don't know a lot on that matter |

I know about that. I'm trying to look at this objectively. Unlike psychics there is a way this could happen without breaking the laws of physics. Of course these people could just be self deluded but it's something I'm curious about. |

Well, I'm no physicist or neurologist, but as far as I'm aware, there are no known mechanisms be which a human could, on their own with no technology, purposefully and consciously control electric currents. |

Depends on how you define 'control'. Is this person simply directing the charge, which can be done (It was actually a side-show in the American Wild West) or does this person claim to be Electro? What are some examples of what this person can do? |

I have not really asked her. Break toasters and cameras as far as I know. |

Well, not without serious damage to the nervous system anyways. I've got lots of different theories about things like this, these "impossible" things. For instance, lots of scientists agree that schizophrenia is caused by trauma of some kind, but I once read a story about a man who could read minds, but couldn't control which he read or shut it off. In the end he shot himself because the sounds of everyone's thoughts drowned out his own thoughts and he was slowly becoming a vegetable. It got me to thinking what if, just what if, there was something to psychic powers? What if schizophrenia was caused not by trauma (well, not directly anyways) but by an overactive ability to read minds? It would, of course, make sense that the "voices" could make no coherent sentences. Have you ever noticed the way you think? The way that you don't ever really complete a thought before you move on to something else? I know a schizophrenic, we call him Crazy Mike. He wears these headphones all the time because the music drowns out the voices; he was a good first hand source of information. According to him schizophrenia is not like what movies make it out to be, the voices don't tell him to do anything; no suggestions, no demands, no threats. In fact, he says they don't say anything at all, they just babble and babble and sound mostly like static because so many of them talk at once. It's an interesting theory, but sadly there is not enough information on psychic abilities to prove or disprove them, let alone test something like mind reading. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

No, it's very possible depending on the level of control we're talking about. With training and a Tesla Coil anyone can do it. As for schizophrenia being related to psychic ability, I seriously doubt it. True schizophrenia symptons are to widespread to be limited to just reading minds, so it's probably just those tiny neurons in the brain seperating reality from fiction degrading in certain ways. As for other mental illnesses, I suppose it's a possibility. Frankly, I don't count out paranormal claims right off. If Occam's Razor doesn't kill it with in a few seconds, then it's more then worth looking into. For instance, their is some, not much, evidence for precognition, do I beleive in it? Not nessecarily, but I am open to the possibility. |

I'm open to the possibility of anything, even JFK being murdered because he was the first non-space lizard American president and his plan to put a man on the moon would revel the lizard base. I just need at least some kind of reasonably explanation and a little some evidence before I entertain the notion. That is why humans producing more electricity than normal and bigfoot hold some interest for me while Operation American Tourist Dollars* and psychics do not *Loch Ness Monster |
