Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Manipulating the brain is not shocking someone. It would be similar if we put patches on criminals to make them calmer, it would just reduce that part of the brains acticity that controls agression (this is very far in the future), so they would be less agressive. Its not a taser. Just think of it as either an agression supressor, or a personality manipulator.

That violates not just ethics and morals, but human rights. You can't force someone to act a certain way, even if you have the technology to do it. They've done that before, but instead of a patch they used to remove a part of the brain; right up into the 1970's.

You can't force someone to be a good member of society, no matter how much you want to. Symmetry is important to every aspect of the universe, including human society. There has to be good and bad, otherwise society collapses.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

True, but it poses an even perhaps worse violation of "ethic and moral rights." Wouldn't you rather have a patch implanted in the brain rather than spend a very long time in jail? Also, I'm not sure society really relies on evil to stand together, could you elborate on that?

Those chips could actually be a morally higher choice in some cases. Cure Explosive Personality Disorder, for example. It's a slippery slope, but if you keep your footing it is the better path to take.

Have you seen How to Build a Dinosaur: Extinction Doesn't Have to Be Forever by Jack Horner? He wants to turn a chicken into a living dinosaur. Now that would make a trendy pet, especially here in California where chickens are commonly kept as housepets by Hispanics. Yes, several people in my neighbourhood let chickens run about inside their house, I'd hate to see their rug!

Eh maybe the chickens are house trained XD Some of my family back in Puerto Rico has/had chickens and even ducks ! I'd love to see pseudo-moa-noalos be sold as pets ! As for a personality chip, I don't think any should be implemented ! It's even cruel to force a non-human to do something unwillingly (yes , they resist, when my dog was a puppy he hated the outdoors, but he changed, but he has a nasty habit of ignoring people :D ), and plus, religious extremists would use it on the gays and free-thinking individuals to make them "normal" and "moral" XD

I expect it could be used on people who agree to it, like sex offenders who want to be castrated, but it could not be used as a standard punishment, then you are 2 steps away from performing brain surgery on people guilty of speeding.

As much as I like your crazy GM and GE futures, it seems more likely that Organic pets will become popular. People keeping pets and refusing to have them vaccinated or wormed because it's not natural. They may already exist.

Perhaps the German Shepard will diverge into 2 new breeds. Ones what don't have hip dysplasia, and a generally healthier and better, and sickly, weak "natural" dogs. I expect the New Dogs will be popular as working dogs (military, police guide dogs) and the "Natural" Dogs will be popular with stupid people.

Well breeders breed dogs that are healthy intelligent , and overall great dogs (my Chihuahua is from a breeder), but unfortunately pet shops still exist where there dogs are taken from puppy mills where the breeding is unregulated and dogs there are overall sickly.

Chihuahuas will greatly diverge more in the future though, like mine , the deer variety, would be more for outdoors people who still want a small, but sturdy dog, then the teacup, which will be used as (unfortuantely) accessories for celebrities...hell maybe they'll GM hamster sized chihuahuas XD

Paris Hilton: OMG look at that Chihuahua ,it's like, so small, I need one so I can fit it in my skinny jeans pockets...That's HOT ! XD

Many do, but some probably are hard to solve with breeding.

I want to give the chihuahua the genes of an original cane corso. The ones you find now aren't like the originals; they're bred to be smaller by FCI standards and were nearly extinct anyways until a recovery breeding program in the 1980's. But originally these dogs were huge, but to 140cm in height. They were bred in Italy as war dogs, and were used by Greeks in the Greek War of Independence to pull artillery because they were more efficient than horses. Four foot tall, artillery pulling, war chihuahua? It's the best of both worlds.

Are you quite sure? That sounds very unlikely. Not the dog artillery, but they used what would become the Chihuahua?

But having massive dogs would be really cool.

What? No. I said I wanted to take its genes and put it in the chihuahua, so I could make a giant chihuahua. I'm assuming since they're both canines it wouldn't be that difficult. Not that genes from any organism with DNA aren't interchangeable, it just seems like it would be easier to do if they're both in the same family.
