| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I'm quite fond of evolution sims. I currently use DarwinBots (I still haven't got the hang of it) and Gene Pool (though a bit slow, it's very easy to use). I've seen a couple of others, but none that really measure up. Breve screensaver was pretty neat but it took a long time to get any inetresting results and it was very buggy. The program itself went way over my head. Does anybody know of any other semi-decent ones? What are your thoughts on them? I don't think they accurately simulate evolution, not by a long shot (I don't think anybody claims they do) but for anyone who's interested in evolution they're quite interesting. |

I'm aware of one that goes by the name of 'Framsticks'. It's a 3D program, and the 'creatures' used in the sim are... well, made up out of sticks. You can 'build' a creature, with muscles, and senses, and then set it loose to evolve in it's 'tank'. HOW it evolves is up to you as well, you can set a preference for fastest runner, or highest jumper. The environment of the tank is up to you as well, whether there's water, land, or a percentage of either. |

Yeah I really wanted to try that one out too. But you have to register which requires a fee, and my bank won't let me transfer money like that sadly. Have you tried it? |

Afraid not. The 'robustness' of the program *meaning it needs a fair number of the commands to be typed in in a precise format,* has kinda put me off of trying it out. The fact that it's so customizable however, gives me idle thoughts... like, what if a person was determined enough to try and make an amalgam of both Framsticks and Spore? |

Yep, I've tried those and I actually couldn't make much sense of it. |
