Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

How fun. They look like RPG enemies, but fun.

I can read Mandarin, al-ammiya and modern Arabic, and this site HAS to be in Japanese. How fortunate.

God, some of these are ridiculously funny.
The Dreaded AOL Dial-Up has left me afraid to spend more than 5 minutes posting at risk of losing it all. Arghhh.

A lot of those things are implausible, though my faves are the quadrapedal and some of the flightless birds, marine birds, marine crocs, the sloth owl, and the age of reptiles (though I had the same exact idea for a future earth dominated by reptiles :( ) Oh and that cute little flying hamster :D
I agree. Especially the New Salinity Crisis section (dried out Mediterranean) looks quite improbable.
They must have watched too much Pokèmon or Digimon. As well as Yugi-Oh *lol*

Seriously, soon I will come up with my personal speculative project about a new salinity crisis, which is also a comics project ongoing.

I really like some of the flightless bird designs, but they are definately not realistic, especially not for such a short timeline (5 million years). Maybe if this was an alternate universe where mammals never diversified, it would make more sense...

I think it's a very creative and interesting site, if not particularly accurate, but that's not my main focus. :D I think it's a good idea to get a little crazy with the speculation sometimes.

agatharights certainly doesn't hold grudges over her own quadrupedal birds thing noooooo.

At the very least, it shows some interesting ideas. Who doesn't flub up some stuff while doing so?

If you look at each time period--even the present and prehistoric ones--there's always one or two creatures that are just a silhouette with a question mark. The "afro bird" was one of these. Some thing tells me that the site as a whole isn't meant to be that serious, and would probably even be funny if only we could read it. The silhouetted creatures are like "easter eggs" for the readers.

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

I like the quadrapedal birds. Some of the ideas are creative and could work. Other than that some are rather implausible. It was very interesting to look at though.
Sorry Link, I don't give credit. Come back when you're a little...MMMMMM...Richer.

I've got a tip to be able to read it (I actually did).

Go to Google Translate, then enter the link of the creature you want to see. Pick "detect language" and then press to translate to English, and then hit Enter. You have to do it for each creature though. Once it detected it as SPANISH!
