| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Being new to the site I havn't gotten to know anyone yet, but I was wondering if there are any artists here who would be interested in starting a collaborative-type evolution project. I would like to begin a project in the same vein as sagan 4, although with a few differences in format. A few years ago I ran a shortlived project of this kind on the Sporeum forums, unfortunately it failed due to time constraints suffered by some of the artists on the project. However, over the last six months or so I have been working on a format that would be less reliant on regular artistic submissions by artists and would be able to continue to run regardless. If there are any talented artists here at the Speculative Evolution forums who are interested in being a part of this kind of project, please reply here or PM me. Thanks. |

Hi there CarrionTrooper and mnidjm, @CarrionTrooper - I like the drawings you've posted a lot. Especialy the luminescent gasbag, forest kite and waterthorns. The format I'd like to use for my project wouldn't require regular artistic submissions from each artist so you'd be able to contribute when and if you felt like it. |

It would be nice to know what the project was about (other than it being similar to Sagan 4). Welcome! |

I havn't worked out much of the detail yet but in essence it would follow the evolution of life on an alien world from the first macroscopic species onward. Each fortnight would constitute 25 million years and artists would be able to contribute images and descriptions of species that have evolved since the end of the previous fortnight. Each contribution would earn a small number of points for the "family" it belonged to or if it were significantly different from it's ancestors it could create a new family of it's own. At the end of each fortnight other forum members would be able to vote for their favourite contributions and points would be awarded to those families who's species recieved the most votes. Then, a "natural disaster" would occur that would remove a certain number of points from all families and those that were left with zero would become extinct. |

What constitutes a fortnight? Hope this is more scientifically accurate than Sagan 4. I may participate in this, but I can't draw well. |

A fortnight would be two real-time weeks. 12 days for submissions and 2 days for voting and clean-up. I would like to keep the level of scientific accuracy higher that that of Sagan 4, keeping as close to currently accepted knowledge as possible. In order to achieve this it is likely I will include several "Advisors" who may or may not be artists. |

I'll do it! Since I can't draw, I'll gladly be an advisor. |

Alright, I'l pencil you in. ![]() Not sure whether or not the project will go ahead or not yet. It'l need a few more artists. I'm waiting for some of the artists from my old project to get in touch with me at the moment, so I'l have a better idea of whether or not it's going to be feasable once I've heard from them. |

@CarrionTrooper: That's fine, If I have enough of a response from other artists then individual artists wouldn't be required to meet any deadlines. @dacmat22: Alright, I'll have a look at some of your sagan work and I'll let you know what I think. Are you known as daacmat22 in the saganwiki too? I've been mucking around with a map generator online. I'v come up with this for an initial world map: |
